ok so hpi says dont run over 250, yet i run like poop at 250 and it runs its best at 280 what you guys think?

I would say your OK. I know traxxas motors like to run around 280. Did you try running below 250?

Yea I'm not quite sure about that either. Mine ran great at 230 for about a week and then it started running like crap unless i ran it at 250-260

during break in it was lower but now its on its 6th tank, and i leaned it out, if its around 230ish it bogs hard, how i have it tuned now, it runs 280ish, and if i floor it, it will flip on its top even in the grass..

Are you guys just adjusting the HSN? If so that's why. Get the truck to run at a decent top speed with the HSN, totally ignoring the way it launches.
Then adjust the LSN to get a good launch, lower your idles speed as necessary. I'll bet they'll run better and much cooler.
A lot of guys on Savage Central swear that the CEN Genesis pipe helps the 5.9 run better and cooler. I have yet to get my hands on an XL so I can't verify this.
