i remounted the body on my tmaxx last evening .as low into the chassis as it would go ,i am using the MSJ FRIDGE HEAD which is enormous ,so i had a 1-1/2" hole thru the windshield and thought well i needed 1 thru te rear window aswell so i drilled another 1 the same size directly infront of the head ,so it is a straight shot right thru the body and onto the head ,,,
so i thought
i ran it today at work, it was running awsume ,showing off for my buddies and all that ,and it had a slight smoke stream ,and it started bogging out ,thinking i was running low on fuel i brought t over and looked at the tank all was good ,then it flamed out ,i looked at the onboard and i about crapped my damn pants ,,
it was reading 424" i looked at the peak temp and it was 446
and i thought omg i just destroyed my mill ,thinking :violin: ,
ok i pack'er up and checked it over when i got home ,had a slight leak at the fuel nipple .gentley snugged it and fuel it and ran it ,ran blah at first but i richened it like 1/2 turn retuned it and seems to be fine ,
why in the hell would lowering the body do that ,before it was temping at 220 to 230
thats all i did lowered the body ,,,
i am totally confused and happy at the same time ,,
any help would be great
thanx
rick

I think it was most likely the fuel leak not the body. Lowering it would actually drop temps. Your engine just ran really lean.

the way i noticed the fuel leak was when i tried starting it when i got home ,priming it ,and fuel pushed out around the nipple

Well, a fuel leak when priming becomes an air leak when running. She was probably running really lean on you and you didn't know it until it was to late.

Depending on how high the body was before, extra air may have been getting under it and hitting the engine as well which still helps cooling.

well she is as high as i cana get it now ,,looks kinda cool too and trimmed the tailgate too ,and front and sides lmao

taken no chances now ,i am not totalling a motor due to my stupidity .lol

When it looks like this, then you can laugh!

well i snugged down the hsn and finally got all my new stuff installed ,
aluminum chassis braces and skids and a wheelie bar ,and took it out for a run ,still couldnt get it to lower temps even with the body off,
couldnt figure out why ,till it shut off on me and i tried to fire it up again and noticed bubbles coming from around the base of the carb ,,
so i do believe i found the problem,,

and btw:olds what happened to your maxx????????

It was known as "FrankenMaxx".

I got tired of buying bodies because the rear would get all tore up from crappy driving. So, I cut the rear off, installed a front bumper on top of the shock tower to give me clearence between the roll bar and something else besides the top of the engine.

Worked out really well as long as you run aluminum bulkheads and RPM shock towers.

You might want to try some High Temp RTV silicone around the carb neck as well. Somtimes just depending on the o-rings doesn't cut it.

ok i got that too
it is sealed for now i used the black stuff ,but now i keep toasting clutch bell bearings ,i have a good fromt 1 that has liek a blue shield on it but i was using the duratrax and there the 1's ikeep wasting and it keeps costing me my rrp plastic spurs ,getting old rather quickly i need a good bearing to hold up any suggestions ?

Sounds like you need to shim your bell a little looser. If you run to tight, it eats up bearings in a hurry. Even the best bearings don't last long. You need about .2mm of play between the bearing and the end of the shaft so it can "float" a little bit.

I had the same problem when I first got into the hobby... well, after my first clutch re-install.

Olds, what kind of looks did you get when you ran that thing? That has got to be the..... ok, never mind!
