I have a wasp .18 on my maxx, and i have a dynamite inline terra crusher exhaust system. I figured, terra crusher has a .18 engine, so why not use it. I am not sure if the engine is supposed to do wheelies on demand, so how can i tell if the pipe is restricting the engine??

if its doing wheelies on demand the engine is not restricted. If the engine is restricted it will be doggish and wont have good power

its not doing wheelies on demand.... i have nothing to compare it too either, because no one has any vids of there wasp .18

if it doesn't have much power you may be running rich but if you have questions about it i belive Maxx trooper has a WASP

from what I hear about the Wasp, somethings not right with yours. Maybe you're running it rich, maybe your pipe is restricting it, but is seems o me like something is not right.,

Hwne tuned properly my trx .18 can almost wheelie on demand.

well, i had the hobby shop tech proffesionally tune it for me....I guess the pipe might be restricting it. I have an extra trx 2.5 pipe i'll try 2morrow.

tried out the stock 2.5 pipe, it is MUCH louder, seems to shift into second later. IS this good or bad? I can't tell if the speed got any higher because i dont have a speed gun. It still wont pop wheelies on demand.

Just because the hobby shop tech tuned it, dosen't mean that It will run great all the time. Might have been more or less humid than the day before.
All he did was give you a starting point.
I race nitro cars and trucks, mostly off road.
How the trucks are tuned in the morning will change as the day goes on.. I tune my cars before every race.
Also, if you think that your pipe is causing the problem, go with a race pipe, or see if the header can be ported.
Was the pipe sitting a long time?
Take it off and try to clean it out. Old fuel will turn to a sticky blob that won't be removed so easily..
hope this helps.
Just my 2 cents

ported the manifold, the opening was Waaaaaaaaaaaay to small for the engine. So i got out the dremel, widened it on both sides about 1/8 an inch. so its about 1/4 to 1/3 larger now. I'm going take the dremel to the carb opening too. It could be larger than it is now. I'm going to make it funnel shaped so it directs the air into the carb quicker and more precisely. I'll tell you guys how it goes 2morrow.

how does a pipe restrict the engine? i can see the port on the manifold but is there sumthing else?

if the pipe is too small, it can restrict an engine because bigger engines need longer and larger diameter pipes. look at the savage 25, the pipe is huge on the thing compared to a .12 or .15.

X,
I definately want to know how your mods went. I have a Wasp also, and I'm in the same boat as you. I have to adjust my shift point because it's shifting way late. Anway, let me know how yours goes.

i'll start it up tomorrow, presuming it doesn't rain all day like it did today... bad day for bashing. They say its supposed to clear up by sometime late 2morrow, hopefully they're right!

just ran it. I had ran it with the roll cage on, which weighed it down. all I can say is WOW. I hardly even ported out the exhaust manifold and the thing is almost popping wheelies now. I think I may need to upgrade the clutch bell on it, because it is now becoming stripped from the engine being so powerful. Every time I go to put it tighter against the spur gear, it gets more stripped or something because i will sit there and do a flip, it will land and when i hit the gas, it just stays in the same spot and revs up...trible10, this is an upgrade you should definately consider if you havent already. It's free, so how can you beat that?

True!!! I'm going to do that as soon as I get a chance. I have 2 Wasp engines, one is still brand new in the box, hopefully I'll be trading it for a roller if everything works out. I'm making some battery packs right now. I'm thinking about taking the exhaust off tonight then dremel it in the morning before I go to work, and trying it out when I get off work. I'll take some pics in case anyone else is interested.

I just bought the wasp 18, it will be here next week.

What pipe/header are you using? Do you have a link for it? I have a pipe/header that I bought at the LHS to put an OS 15 cv-r(x) (side exhaust) on my maxx a long time ago. It's all I have to use when the new engine shows up. I ported it out some to make it match the exhaust port on the OS, but that was about 5 minutes before I f'd up that engine... long story.

I'm hoping that pipe will work with the 18. If not, I'll be looking for one that will.

The stock one is a round port for a rear exhaust engine... I don't think the wasp is rear exhaust. At least I hope it isn't.

I'll try what I have and if I don't like it, i'll try what you said.

Thanks.

oh, I'm sorry I assumed you had the trx pro .15 engine. That one was a side exhaust, and I thought you had that manifold. Anyway, yes the wasp is a side exhaust. Just go on towerhobbies and get the side exhaust manifold for the older t-maxx engine. It will fit the wasp .18. Then flare the opening to allow more air threw. L8r
