I just revived an old Team Associated RC300 car with a Magnum Pro 21 engine. Its a pretty darn fast car. But with the speed comes the problem - how do i keep control over the car at a top speed run. Sometimes the slightest move of the steering will quickly run the car into a wall or into the grass.

How do you guys keep your fast cars under control at top speed?

lol this will sound stupid but dont drive fast... just slowly learn to drive fast. Sooner or later u will learn how to drive fast.
 
It might also be possible to move the steering linkage connection on the steering servo closer to the center of the servo drive. This will decrease the overall throw of the drag link but provide better control AND more torque to the steering. Doing this could also decrease your turning radius as the the shortened throw may not fully turn the wheels to their steering stops.

I don't own this vehicle. This is just mechanics.
 
I dont own the same car either but Ihave a 4tec that can get pretty squirelly at wot, it took a few really nice lawn jobs to finally get it right, what wdavidhicks said could very well be right , a servo adjustment would be the most likely thing to check first, but heres what I do, when I know I am going to do a wot run I make sure to not turn and break at that speed instead I will just let go of the steering and slow the car in a straight line and then break just before I want to turn the car around, this works well for me! hope it helps!
 
Another option is to get a radio that allows for proportional steering. You can set it to be very slow at 0 but then proportionally get quicker at +10 or -10. This way you dont loose your turning radius but it will not be so sensitive at WOT.

scummer - this is exactly what i do. I race at pretty technical tracks, so i need alot of steering, but when i hjit second gear on the straights, it can get pretty hairy. My Hitec Lynx 3D FM has a feature called Auto Dual Rate. Its kinda like speed sensitive power steering. The faster i go, the less steering my car has. At idle, my wheels turn 125% of the intended servo throw, at WOT, they only turn 10%.

Hmm.. this is very interesting... i think i actually can get a dual rate mix modul for my remote.
If i remember correctly, this is normally used alot in helis.

it is, but is limited only to the more advanced surface radios. what TX are u using?

Addition: keep in mind also, that a LARGE part of keeping a car under control is set up. make sure your shocks, toe in, camber, castor, ride height, droop, ect are all set up correctly, or u will continue to have high speed handling issues. remember, little minute changes make a huge difference, when u figure that at scale speeds, the car is travelling at over 500mph.
 
I use a german TX Graupner FM 314 and the RC300 doesn't have shocks, ride height, camber and all that nitty gritty stuff setups.

Its a very plain and simple racecar which is aboot 15 yrs old which my bro-in-law gave me after he gave up on fixing it. But its from Team Associated, so it must be good :) And it took me 6 month to source the spare parts to make this car run, so it has emotional value too :doc:

Sure thang.. i take some pics with my digital after i get home from work tonite. Uhmm.. and after i clean up the car.. i did the break-in of the engine yesterday and man.. the rich runs are a mess until the correct fuel/air ratio is found.

So let me get this straight. What you're basically describing is a mix that you have setup with the lynx 3d. So as you give more throttle, you get less steering?

If that's what it is, then i never even knew my lynx 3d could do that...lol.

semi off-topic: I do airplanes and lynx 3d radio is kinda hard to setup compared to my 8 channel futaba. I need a new radio...
 
kwong - read your manual, lol. I find the lynx very easy to set up.

Go to your setup screen, and scroll down to auto d/r then set the amount of dr u want at idle, and click the save buttons, then keep repeating this process for switch 1 and 2. it isnt a linear response, its stepped. it allows for 3 different settings at various positions of the throttle trigger.
 
I've read the manual, it just seems too simplified though.

So it's not really linear eh? Well my airplane radios are!...lol
