How screwed is my PC now??

So I was out of town for one damn day and I come home to my pc not turning on. I've recently done a bunch of maintenance, insyalled some more memory and a router. Everything went without a hitch and the computer had been shut down and restarted several times since everything I've done. It was working fine. I shut yhe pc down before we left. Right now there is a green flashing light on the back of the tower.?.?

I can tell the power went out here while we were gone, and yes the pc is connected to a surge protector.

I would say the green flashing light is your lan connection. Did you try resetting the surge protector and power supply?

So you hit the Power button an there's nothing, no sound of fans, hard disks, nothing? If that's the case it certainly sounds like the PSU could be goosed. Is your PC a branded unit like a Dell, HP or something, or a self-built PC?

Are you sure your power stripp has power try pluging in staight to the wall and make sure none of you circut breakers are tripped from the power outage....

Is the surge protector fused or does it have a CB? When you cracked open the case, did you accidently unplug the cable for the power button? Loose connections? Did it release the ghost?

I don't think that's the case as he said it worked fine afterwards. Ghosts only usually escape in a puff of magic blue smoke anyway

if your power strip light is on then unplug the machine and let it sit for about 15 minutes. then plug it back in and try again. I have seen so so so many people with machines that wouldnt turn on. by the time they unplug it and haul it all the way up to my shop it would work like a champ. let me know bro!

Unplugged for 30 minutes but still no go. That little green light just starts flashing again. Everything else on the power strip works fine.

if you feel comfortable with opening it up i can tell you how to test the power supply. you will need a paper clip..

Before you go risking a perm hairdo, have you tried another power cord? I have had one die on me. Replaced it, and computer would boot up like normal.

if it is under warrenty i wouldent open it up. but if warrenty is out there is nothing to worry about

testing the power supply is very simple

first unplug the pc, and take the side off

then look for the large power plug on the motherboard.

pull that thing off and have a look at it.

on the side with the clip you will see a bunch of wires (duh) look for a green one. insert one end of the paper clip into the socket for the green wire. that wire will have a black wire beside it SKIP IT and plug the other end of the paper clip into the SECOND black wire. this will close the circuit that would turn the machine on.

Now plug the machine back in. the fans and stuff should spin up although the machine will not actually boot up and you wont see anything on the screen. If everything powers up then your power supply is good.

put everything back like you found it and let me know the outcome.

there are 3 black wires to one side of the green wire and only 1 to the other side. I'm assuming the second black wire of the 3? Also, I should be plugging the clip into the plug end, not the motherboard end right?

yes the side with multiple black wires, second black wire, and yes into the plug, not the board..
