i am one of the worst when it comes to cleaning maintinence. i have ran about 2 1/2 gallons thru my savage..and have yet to clean it once...only place i try to keep it clean is the engine area. other than that the mud that may have gotten on the truck eventually falls off if i jump it hard enough on a day thats its dry out lolz. of course a clean truck should be a better performing truck as all the joints/hinges will work smoother, and will be much easier to work on, (and possibly be a few OZ lighter depending on how much mud you had caked on) but its all up to your personal preference of how often you want to clean the truck.

Sure you can clean it when it gets dirty but I would highly suggest not taking it apart and cleaning it every time. I know for me at least the more the bigger the risk of losing or stripping screws. Believe me you can get it about 98% cleam using a small paintbrush and some denatured alcohol.

Sorry for my Smartass reply.. I was feeling Onery. A really good idea is to get some Alcohol from the drugs store. I buy huge bottles for .99 cents and put itin a simpled green bottle. Wd40 is cheap too, and wont ruin plastic.

What I do is use the wd40 to spray the heck out of the engine when it gets covered with dust it gets the big stuff. Then I whip out the Alcohol and spray the heck out of it. I like to keep my engine nice and clean so it cools well.

The rest of it, when something breaks I tear it down to fix it. I check bearings check for worn parts loose screws etc. Usually I clean the heck out of it first so I don't get too much dirt on my table.

So I keep airfilter/engine areas clean every run. The rest I let go until I need to fix something (all the damned time lol)

I actually like taking mine apart. My friend thinks I am neurotic for doing it so often. However I find that sometimes plastic parts will strip out on your truck from taking them on and off too often but thats just an excuse to get aluminum.

i strip all my rides down every sunday nite.most the time..weather they need it or not...to check for damage..and to do a supper clean..relock tite all screws.and so on

I am very anal when it comes to cleaning. And knowing this about myself I only clean when I know I'm going to have an afternoon or an evening to myself. For example, I had a nice dusting of dirt, dust, crud, burnt nitro spooge etc etc all over my Savage. It took me about 4 hours to almost completely disasemble it and clean it to like new conditions.

I dont suggest YOU do this but its just the way "I" am.

I only disassemble when something's broke. I find that the engine area is the only place that really needs cleaning and the other junk eventually falls off. Like someone said, it's easy to strip plastic if you are in there too much.

when i first got my savage, i used to clean it almost everytime i took it out. but then i got bored and now i just clean it when its apart to fix somethin.

I air-blow my Savage every after bashing. I bought this compressor which is quite portable but still enough PSI to give my truck a good spray. First I apply WD40 all over then blow air, so when I bring it inside the house it's clean as a whistle all the time.
When it comes to taking it apart I only do it when I have too. I would say once a month.
