How many gallons of fuel should you typically get out of a Megatech M-16 engine before you have to rebuild it?

i have had 2 of them, i did not care for the motor but they worked alright. i usually got at the maxx 2- 2 1/2 gallons before i had to rebuild them.

this question is tough to answer - as it depends dramatically on how u care for the mill, as well as how you drive. typically - for bashing only, a small block should be rebuilt every 2-3 gallons, and for racing - every gallon. but i have seen people need a rebuild after only 6 or 7 tanks of fuel, and i have seen people run an engine for 4 years, and never need a rebuild. it all matters on how u broke the mill in, how rich u run it, and how much after run care you do.

bottom line: do a rebuild when the engine needs it.

I have yet, after at least 5 years, had to rebuild an engine. Then, on the other hand, I don't abuse my engines. Don't get me wrong, I do at times run them pretty hard but not for any length of time. I used to race once a week for two summers with my RC10GT. That truck is now my brother's and te engine is still running strong. I may be wrong but 2 to 2 1/2 gallons seems prety quick to be needing a rebuild (to me anyway). Heck, that could amount to several rebuilds over one summer. I could understand it if you are racing and pushing the limits of the engine and using maybe 30%-40% fuel, but for average bashing on weekends the engine should last a long time if it is broken in correctly and cared for. These are my opinions and may or may not be the general veiws of other R/C owners.

Thanks!

Thanks for the input guys! My engine has had about 2.5 gallons run through it and was broken in by the previous owner, so rebuild time it is... Any good break in tips for post rebuild would be great if you don't mind.

Thanks again everyone!

but see i said that 2- 2 1/2 gallons because i use my truck almost everyday and on weekends at the track all day pushing it hard. so in my case i need to rebuild the often. but thats why i said that i didnt care for the megatech .16 because i always had to rebuild it more often than any of my others. so i got rid of the small blocks and now i am running an XTM 24.7 engine. i like it much much much better.

Break in is the same as it would be if it were new. do a search for break in proceedures - and u will find ALOT of posts on that, giving you ample information.

yes that is all that u have to do is just type in and then read. hope that ur motor is going to be better than what mine were.
GOOD LUCK!

Wow, that seems like a short longevity time for your engines. I have over 3 gallons 30% through my .21 bb on my savage and it is still going strong. I have over 5 gallons of 30% through my hyper 21 turbo and aside from a broken pull start it is still going strong.

I had heard somewhere that you should rebuild after every 10 gallons of fuel, depending on type of engine usage.

yes i know. BUT like i keep saying this was with the Megatech .16 engine that i had. it didnt run really good.

El Pirata 10 gallons? thats about 40 litres of fuel! I am on about 8 litres on my Savage 21 engine and it still runs strong.

The Heigher the Nitro rating, the faster your gonna need a rebuild. Approximately youll need one at around the 6-7 gallon.

That's what I was told somewhere. However if you'll reread, I have run over 5 gallons about 20 liters of 30% fuel through my hyper 21 turbo and it's still running strong. Am I just lucky, maybe? The only thing is I have no signs that the engine is about to take a dirt nap and can still spin the tires off the line.

Do you run your engine rich? I tune my HSN on my Savage when hot so it battles a bit to change into 2nd gear! I have oil all over the chassis but it still has megga power.

it depends on exactly how fast you want to go. if you wanna see some insane performance, try to kill your engine via lean condition. it would be an expensive experiment, but that engine will perform like never before up until it explodes. thats the extreme of short engine life. the other extreme would be the engine that leaves a snail-trail of nitro behind it. you could probably beat your nitro in a foot race, but you'd never have to rebuild the engine.

between those two extremes, you descide how much you want to spend on the hobby. therefore, you descide how long your engines lasts.

LMFAO!!!! Where do u come up with these things? I am sitting here at my desk vividly picturing that - and its true! super rich engines during break in to leave a "snail trail" !!!

Megatech M16's aren't that good quality of a motor, my neighbour has one and it needs a rebuild after a gallon and half because the piston started rattling in the sleeve causing damage and he had it tuned right. I've heard OS engines such as the RG and RZ/VZ/CZ last up to over 10 gallons. It really varies.

Unless your like El Pirata and runs 40% nitro on the leeanest possible.
