Just got FIOS by Verizon and lovin it - anyone thinking of making the jump to it you will not be disappointed. I do find that alot of sites dont have the bandwidth to take full advantage but the major ones do.
Test your speed here

Post your results

I get
Your Throughput
Download = 15.185 Mbps
Upload = 3.623 Mbps

All for $49.99 per month with free install!!

Here's my numbers with SBC DSL

Your Throughput

Download = 1.294 Mbps
Upload = 326.50 kbps

Heres mine with cable, but there wasn't really any close states...

Your Throughput

Download = 2.934 Mbps
Upload = 71.71 kbps

I do however have 3 PCs running off that connection...don't know if that makes a difference or not

Your Throughput

Download = 645.70 kbps
Upload = 54.23 kbps

I got DirecWay... Its so slow its not even funny... However, we have the first version, and since we got it there have been like 3 upgrades that are supposed to make it so much faster... I am in a semi-remote area out in the country, where DSL is not avialable... We tried the 144kps through Covad, and its crap... We are looking into Galleleo (sp?) they claim to have 3mbps up and down...

i dont know why, but when I go into the control panel to look at my internet speed, this is what it says....

speed 100 mbps...

Grats on FIOS Bruce... I work for Verizon in the Data arm and have some FIOS responsibilities.. May I ask how your Ordering and Installation experience was?

That is because the network card, that communicates information from your cable modem, to your computer is capable of sending information between the two at up to 100mbs. Unless you own a company big enough to have a board room, or have a personal COLLECTION of Ferarris that you drive on the weekends, you probably don't have 100MBs for an internet connection speed.

To compare it to something tangible, its kinda like your internet connection is receiver wire (between 56k/s and 3mb/s) and your network card is 4 gauge monster cable (between 10Mb/s and 1Gb/s)in terms of the ammount of data they can move.

edit: This is what I got using the connection where I work.

Your download speed : 1235768 bps, or 1206 kbps.
A 150.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 1308615 bps, or 1277 kbps.

I live in a neighborhood that was wired as a test bed for fiber more then 10 years ago. Several times over the years we have have helped beta fiber connections. I was using FIOS for 3 years up until 2002. When Comcast purchased our cable company the took it away. Boo-hoo....... I fully understand the freedoms you are enjoying. At the time I had it there were no servers that would let me utilize my connection speeds.

During that time we also had VOIP with the service and and tested an entire host of other fiber related technologies that go hand in hand with having FO wired to the house. The one I liked the best was a full 10 line PBX the size of most answering machines that only used 1 FO cable to the wall and no additional phone outlets just 1 FO connection in each room with phones.

The other fun project I was able to test was video on demand. Most cable companies are now offering this but at the time it was only a dream without FO.

Check with your provider and see what they have in the works for your new connection. Its all good.....

They missed the first appointment and was real late on the 2nd and the poor guy had to get up in the attic when its 95 deg outside and he was here for 4 hours. Once you get it - its all cool but was a pain to get it installed

Download = 1.100 Mbps
Upload = 214.27 kbps

But i'm downloading/uploading some torrent files at the moment, so I dunno how much that effects it.

If I'm lucky I can connect at 28.8 lmao, unfortunaly they dont offer anything else where I live except dial up, I live outside of town.
