RC Driving Style
Hi, most of you know I'm getting the full shabang included with the savage 25 lim edition. This includes reverse which requires an extra servo (included).
My question is how on earth does the reverse work? Also why do you need a third servo for it? And would it damage the gearing it you go full speed forward then suddenly hit reverse?

Day after purchasing savage:
Finding it difficult to contain myself. I have sat here patiently waiting for that big present under the tree. I know ill just twiddle my thumbs for a month...yea that will keep me busy....yep fun fun fun! LOL

p.s. I'm not quite that insane but i really want to get some big air time with that savage!
 
well, first off, congrats on the savage. u'll love it. i've had mine for about 3 yrs, and its still running strong
now, reverse needs the 3rd servo, cause it a seperate item on the tranny. the servo basically moves a drive pin from the "forward" position to the "reverse" position. engaging reverse while in forward motion will DEFINITELY ruin your tranny.
 
i will chime in on this as well ,congrats on getting the savage ,reverse is cool but like 04 stated DO NOT hit reverse while moving at all, bring it to an idle then switch to reverse and back to an idle for forward or that 3 speed will be a no speed quickly!!
they are very easy to install just go by the instructions included and it will be a snap
as for the linkages it will be included and you switch back and forth between forward and reverse with a little switch on the transmitter right under your thumb.linkage installation is in the instructions as well ,pretty straight forward .
 
Thanks, i understand it now i just dont know how the engine always turning one way, can make the car go the other way! I'm sure it will be much clearer when its all connected. Hasnt anyone ever made a mistake and messed their tranny up by doing that? Also i might revert to using my trusty futaba control but it only has 2 channels. So i guess reverse wouldnt work on it. I also have a flight control which has 4 channels i think, that would work though its abit bulky (quite old aswell!)
Tell me though, what is the INCLUDED control like? Its one of those pistrol grip kind right? I've never used one like that and I'm worried about crashing it. Plus I've always been more comfortable with the standard 2 stick controls.
 
the savy comes with a pistol.. once you get used to it its fine. the reverse works just like a 1:1 car reverse does.. engine keeps spinning the same direction, but it throws in another idler gear which makes everything run backward.. very simple but very effective. congrats on the savy.. you will love it
 
Is the pistol good quality?
It just I'm used 2 the pound shop quality PRP controls.
 
its ok.. not a high end radio my any means.. but not junk ether.. i have the hot bodies version on my buggy and i have no probs with it.
 
ye I've messed my reverse up ...i dont know whats happened but it stopped working

even to high of a idle can mess it up i belive ...of well another thing to look at during the winter rebuild ....but for bashing i love the reverse, beats me running over to turn it around
 
Reverse increases rotating mass in the tranny and adds weight to the truck.

I personally do not have reverse in my Savage and am getting ready to get rid of reverse in both my LST and Revo. I simply never use it.

Monster trucks should run over obstacles, not back away from them.
 
thats a strange way of looking at it. I mean thats like saying no car should have reverse because you drive forwards on the road not reverse down it. Not quite the same but if reverse is avaliable, i suggest you have it!
Just my opinion anyway.
I'm going to install reverse after the break in period. Seems like the logical thing to do from what i have heard.
 
To each their own. Just giving my opinion on the subject.

BTW, my last sentance on my previous post was a joke.

Your analogy is flawed since 1:1 cars must have reverse to back down a driveway or out of a parking spot. It is most diffucult to grab your full size car and turn it around by hand if it did not have reverse.

OK, my 2 cents worth on this subject. First, DON"T use an airplane radio for your r/c car. It is illegal, unless it's 27 mhz.
Also, you do not need a 3rd channel for reverse. I can just hear the angry keyboard taps that are going to come my way for saying that, but here is what you can do. Dynamite r/c used to have a switch that was hooked to your brake. if you hit the brake twice or something, it would switch to reverse after a period of time. Not sure how it worked, but it delayed long enough to not engage to reverse while moving forward. I checked their site, but could not find it.

yea that might be worth buying. Thats if they are in the UK which they probably are.
Everyone has been sayin things like "ill give you £1 if you manage to damage the savage" lol must be a strong vehicle.
 
I might add a reverse to mine. might be cool. and I have nothing else to spend my money on!
 
kurtf it can me damaged TRUST ME but it takes ALOT more to do so then most other mt's
 
i was told even a high idle can mess the whole tranny up!

your dad driving it in the pond with no water proofing doesn't effect it in any way

I agree..i never installed it in mine. Its hard enough to cram everying in that battery box..can't imagine how tough it would be with an extra servo.

Or does the reverse go under the truck somewhere?

The reverse servo does take up a fair bit of room in the servo tray...I'm currently resoldering wires so that it all fits in there...bad design (same with the 3 speed...bad design)
