got my new laptop, I want to move all my outlook data (contacts/calender/existing e-mails/and all that crap)...I know there is a way to do it, I don't remember if I'm still on outlook 2003 or if it's newer right now(I'll look tonight at home).....but there were 2 or 3 files I used and just copied them to the new PC and all my stuff was there...I may be remembering a perfect scenario but I'm pretty sure that was all I had to do....anyone familiar with this?
please help....the PC forums I have found don't really seem to be that good....anyone have a good one please post the link as well....

you can copy the outlook folders in your profile, or just copy the whole profile. %system root%\documents and settings\username\ there is a microsoft folder under \application data, and \local settings\application data, that should be where your outlook profile is. local settings may be hidden though.

i have never tried copying jut the email profile, but you can copy the whole profile over as well, just log into the new machine to create the profile, reboot and log in as admin. then replace the "username" folder under doc's and settings with the one from the old machine. reboot and log in as you and it should have everything.

this may help as well, seems office 03 has a wizard..

Go to Control Panel and look for "Easy Migration kit". It might require a jumper between the two, but it allows you to bring in all the info you want from the old comp.

You create a back up of your Outlook with a .pst file. It wil copy all emails and contacts unless you specify certain folders. I use Outlook 2003.

I've got an easier way... Takes two steps and a thumb drive.

First step; copy out your profiles. Go to Tools, Accounts, and export all you see there that you want to keep (saving to the thumb drive). Doing it this way allows you to copy the account settings intact; servers, usernames, passwords, the works.

Second step; exporting your PST. Same basic logic here, except go to file, export, select PST, and the rest is pretty much step-through. Doing this saves you the time of tracking down the store folder on the harddrive.

Reverse the steps (import instead of export) on the new machine.

This method also gives you a way of backing up your data.

OK...every one was right except the fact outlook creates a default "outlook.pst" file....you need to close outlook and delete this file before dumping the new one in there.....I spent a few hours last night on this and finally got it right....thank you for all the answers again.....you guys are better tech support than the forums supposedly specializing in this crap.....
