How do you correctly tune an engine? What do you listen for? What temps should i run it at just for messing around? How much should i turn the needles at once? How do you do it period.

well, I can't really describe wat to listen for...depends on the engine I guess. I'm stilll in the process of tuning mine and I turn the needles about a half a turn each time I start it (high speed needle) If ur engine heats up fast it's to lean. (turn needle left) if it has kind of a deep groggy sound then it's to rich. (turn needle right)

o ya.....Bl@st off!!!!!!!!

does anyone have any more experience no offence. Just more details. Thanks though.

With one of these I think.

Or you could do a search on this site and find about 200-300 posts on the subject.

Of course, Eddy's right. You should use the new and improved a-arm style tuning fork

Plus, don't you remember? Lillightningboy doesn't use the search feature. He said he was too lazy...............:no_commen

well if the mtoor blows up its too lean... if it locks up and is filled with gas its too rich..

USE TF SEACH FUNCTION

You should probably provide a little more info as to what kind of engine you are tuneing, what are you running? T/Maxx or Savage?? .21 or .25?? These are somewhat important factors to take into consideration when giving advise to tuneing your particular engine since they don't all tune the same, as for what to listen for......well first things first, let us know what kind of car/truck you have and we can go from there to better help you try to get it tuned:smoke:

I wil be tuning an 8 port. When i used the search function i couldnt find anything that was very in formative that i could understand. So thats why i started my own thread.

The Four Rules Of Engine Tuning

1. Rich is good. Blue smoke should always be coming from the exhaust.

2. Always set the high-speed needle first

3. Never try to tune a cold engine—wait for it to get up to operating temperature.

4. Always begin your engine tuning from a rich high-speed needle setting. Never start out with a lean setting.

Thanks that helps. So i have a temp gun and i should start with the hsn. When i tune the hsn then i should lean it out till i think it is right and it isnt running to hot. Then i go to the lsn and i lean that out so i get a fast take off. But so it wont bog down or stall. Does that seem about right? What am i forgeting?

Yup, that would be right, just remember that when you do tune the LSN to do it with very slight adjustments,(1/8 turn at a time) and to run the truck for 1 - 2 minutes between adjustments so the engine can adjust to the new setting. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.
