I know that I am beating a dead horse but I can tune the HSN but how do I tune the LSN? I have a guide by a felow member but how do I compensate for the adjustments? I get great even awesome top speed on either of my mills, 12RSS ( HPI ) and the MT12 ( MUGEN ). I get frustrated because I can't get the LSN right! When I do mess with the LSN My idle is all screwed up and it becomes hard to start!!

Please help!!!:sorry:

o.k. boss.
First thing to do is to put the needles back to factory settings.
Seconds is to set the idle to the 1mm opening in the carb ventury.
Third is to run the car and lean out the high speed needle until you have pretty good acceleration, but the fastest top end without going past 230 degrees F.
After that is set, play with the low speed needle until you low end is sharp and can get you out of the whole shot the fastest. As you play with the low speed needle, the idle will go up and down according to the way you turn the needle. If the idle goes down, raise the idle a little, if it idles really high, lower the setting on the idle needle.

It might be a kick in the ass for a 1/2 an hour or so, but when all is good you won't have to do it anymore. (just little adjustments).
Try this procedure and all should work out for you.
Peter
P.S. let me know how it works.

Thanks peter I will try it out and keep you posted!
El pirata ~ are there any changes to the other needles when adjusting the LSN?

El Pirata ~ I meant that when you change the LSN do you have to change another needle to make the car run right still or am I looking to far into this matter and it is as simple like you said?

Jon, if you lean or richen the low speed needle, the idle will go up or down.
The high will not be affected, but the low speed will affect the idle.
Hope that straightened it out for you.
Peter

THanks peter I did!! I'll try it out tomorrow

UPDATE 9-10-03

I tried the new foams I got and that helped out so much but I still get beat out of the hole and that really pisses me off. Especially since I have the 12RSS and my brother has the 15FE. His engine is strong but I thought the 12RSS would be a lot faster than that engine! What am I doing wrong? could it be the setting I set the diffs? where is the power? I have broke the engine in with 8 tanks at a rich setting! I have tried to tune for more speed and the 15fe still is keeping up with me inch for inch!!

I have the SS motor in my SS and can beat the high powered engines out of the hole. Its all how the chassis is setup and the settings on the motor.
You need to play with the low speed and get a racing clutch and cut the spring short so you have more stall when you give it gas.
This will make you beat your bros.
I can beat the tc3, surpent 705, and all others out of the hole because it doesn't have a lot of tire spin, so it gets going faster.
peter
Play with the low end more, and do what I said bout the clutch.
Peter

hey Somers racing-- what clutch is good? and what do you mean about the springs? I run a three shoe clutch on mine. This was supposed to be more low end punch. I have this on my NTC3. the top end is ok but my brothers 15FE still beats me out of the hole and is still right there on a straight away! Playing with the LSN makes my engine stall.. I was told that the LSN should be flush wit the carb? Is this right? Or is this the wrong setting for me?

Um, if you have an SS motor in your ntc3 and you're getting beat by anything with a 15fe, you're WAY out of tune. Or you must have a really poopy setup. Basically, something is majorly wrong.

Tell me something I don't know..it sucks to get beat by a 15FE. Kwong what the hell am I not doing here?

Jon - if u are still having a problem, and you DO NOT want to change gearing (which u should), then u ovbviously need to adjust the LSN. Ignore the pinch test when adjusting the LSN, this is for newbies. Instead, try this test. Drive the car around for a few seconds, and then come to a stop. Sit at idle for about 10 full seconds, then give the car full throttle. If it boggs down for a second, or tries to clear its throat, then its too rich. Lean it out about 1/16th of a turn, and try this teat again. continue to do this until the LSN is set right, and the acceleration is acceptable.

The first part is correct. U will probably have to adjust your ISS a bit, as leaning out the LSN will cause your idle to go up a bit.

However, the second part is wrong. The LSN WILL affect the HSN. Leaning out the LSN, will also lean out the HSN, and u will need to compensate for this, to prevent overheating.
