I'm wondering how to adjust the spur gear mesh on a savage x 4.6. if i want to get the mesh tighter do i have to shim the motor. it was fine then my original spur gear went i put a new one in and same thing right away. i can't see where the mounts are broke. i was reading other posts about this on here but nothing their seems to help me

Make sure nothing is broken. The way you made your post it sounds like either the engine mount or the motor plate is broken. Once you get that fixed, you can loosen up the 4 screws under the engine plate to free the engine. Place a piece of notebook paper between the clutch bell and spur and hold them together while you tighten the 4 screws, not forgetting the locktite. You should be able to pull out the paper and get a perfect zigzag left on the paper. There should be very little play between the spur gear and the CB.

To mesh a Savage spur/clutch bel you want it as tight as possible but still able to spin freely. The plastic spur will wear into the CB and last for gallons.

Exactly...I was stripped my spur gear and when I was replacing it, I found out the three of the four screws that holds the motor plate(the purple one) down was missing:whhooo: I replaced them but haven't ran it yet. Just make sure everything is tight and definitely locktite them.
