I'm running the VXL set-up in my slash with stock pinion and 90T spur. The motor gets so hot I can't touch it. The 12T titan didn't get this hot with the same setup. Why is the BL motor getting so much hotter and what can I do to bring the temps down? Also the esc is getting fairly hot too....

They do sell heatsinks for brushless motors. They work great and keep the temperature down. But definitely adjust your gearing first.

you can fan the ESC, but you probably need to bring your pinion down a little bit.

pinion is stock, should I put the stock 86T spur back in it? I have the 90T now. could my slipper cause my motor to get hot? It's 1 turn out (manual recommended). What max temp should I be looking for?

you need a smaller pinion, putting the smaller 86 tooth spur will make it worse, and you're going to need to replace your motor ... i'd seriously gear it "way" down, till you get a temp guage and know your boundries,

well I put the 86T back in it and took it before I read your post. I Gave it a real hard bashing, Mostly full throttle for about 5+minutes. Checked temps with a temp gauge. Motor was at 152, ESC was at 89. What temps am I looking for? what gearing should I be using in a Slash VXL mostly used for Short track and light to medium bashing? O, and I'm running a 7-cell 4600 nimh...I don't know if that matters or not...

I'm new to Brushless Cars/Trucks. Wont a smaller pinion make the motor spin more causing more heat? How does this work? I've only messed with nitros before.

okay I did another run. about 10 -15 mins. lots of WOT passes, doughnuts, tire spins and all at 3/4 throttle +. Temps were: Motor - 173, ESC - 120 & Battery - 115. are these temps okay?

I've heard you want the temperatures of the motor to be under 160 and never pass 180. Same for the ESC. Not sure about the battery pack, but I think that's still high. Did you change your pinion? Keep the 90T spur. Buy a pinion with maybe 3-4 less teeth. See how it does.

I think i'll look into a smaller pinion. Under 160? well i'm not too far off and I know I'll never push it as hard at the track as I did today so I'm probably okay. Also My batteries hit 120 after a full charging so 115 after a run seems fine to me.
