They bolts holding the pipe on my rs4 came loose and i was running w/out a pipe fully on for a few minutes, i was wonder just how bad is it for the car? I really hope i didnt mess the engine up, it didnt sieze or really over heat but i know its not good to run bigger engines w/out em on..

When you say fully on.. what do you mean??

Did the sound of the motor change??

Whenever I blow the pipe off of the header, the sound changes.. it is LOUD!!!

As long as you didn't keep running after it got loud (if it did) you should be OK. Well, actually, I don't think you can really do any damage to an engine by knocking it loose..
That is a good question. I don't know the answer to that one. But as long as you weren't running it around long with just the header..

Oh, I guess some damage could occur if the pipe came off the header and your mixture leaned out really bad due to lack of back pressure in the tank. That would be the only thing I could think of that could cause a problem.

running without a pipe on or fully connected will not only give you a louder exhaust note but will not supply enough pressure to the tank. This will result in a lean condition and/or fuel starvation.

If it wasn't done for too long, you should be fine. Sounded cool for a while, right?

When ya look in the exhaust hole, the piston is right there, so it can't be good. Might want to take the head of and give it a peek but like Diver said, if it was for a very short time, ya should be allright.

I've got a ths tuned pipe on it and its pretty loud as it is but it did get a bit louder, I'm going to take of the head and check out the piston, i should look for scrapes and stuff right? and if there were scrapes i would have to get a new sleeve and piston righT?

Depends on your compression still, but yeah you could expect alot shorter life from it if its scrapes and stuff. If ya see scrapes and stuff Id do a complete tear down and clean it all before running it again. Then check your compression and how shes runnin.

Thank god I'm not the only one. Just last week, was out tweaking and tuning in front of the house. I'm not sure why the screws backed out, but after a long run down the street, it seemed incredibly loud. I didn't think too much of it at first, so I romped on it coming back, and when it shifted, the car almost died. I knew what happened at that point. Oh well, I guess time will tell if I truely f'ed it up.
Maybe a good reason for an engine swap, eh? ;)

dude my frickin exaust header screws keep coming out and now i needa get longer screws cuz the headers stripped does anyone have a pair of 3x35 or longer engine head screws laying around ? iwent to all of my local hardware shops and they all didnt have any longer then 10mm ....

I'll look in my box of parts..

To my knowledge in 2 cycle engines if the muffler or airfilter comes off it will run lean which may become a toasted mill
