Hey, newb here to the site. My son and I appreciate all the info!

Got a Horizon Hobbies ECX 1/18 crawler. We've had it since my son was little, always enjoyed it and it's like new.

What can we go with as an alternative to this OEM ESC/Rx? I'd like something that's more available for the future. Horizon only sells the "updated" version of the ESC/Rx and you have to buy the newer controller. $85 plus shipping and tax.....shoot we can switch to modern for that?

Any ideas? Thanks in advanced!

I believe Furitek is the go to for brushless mini crawler stuff.

Any ESC that will fit in it and meet the amperage draw will work. Furitek makes a lot of very nice ESC's. Hobbywing has also come out with a good micro ESC, but they also have small brushed ESC's like this one:

From there you will also need a radio. The Flysky GT3B can be had for $35 or so and is a great budget friendly radio.

Is that the one from the TRX4? Should be good, but a little big for a mini crawler.

It is their 18th scale ESC. 36x28x16 is the size. I'm not familiar with the crawler in question. I just gave that as one example. I have used it in 1/16 stuff in the past, and it is fairly small. Other than Furitek stuff or 24th scale stuff, that's the only one I know of.
