I got the idea from some website, so I decided to try it. Although the idea is quite common and straight forward, I'll post anyways and include some pictures.

All you need is a small fan. I used one from an old computer.
You'll also need an on/off switch, but not necessary.
And then a 9V battery and a zip tie or two.

So heres what I did:

I connected an on/off switch to the fan and then zip-tied the fan on top of the ESC. Then I attached the two wires to the 9v battery and hot glued them in place. After that I hot glued the 9v battery and switch onto the chassis. I personally hot glued the crap out of it so it would be more secure and stronger.

Looks real ugly but it works really well, and its pretty much free.

You can also connect a fan to the 3rd channel on a typical RC. If you use a connector from a burned out servo and just use the positive and negative out of the receiver. This should give you about 6v DC. As long as it is a small fan there should not be any issues on current draw.

Never thought of that. Gonna go and try it tomorrow
Thanks for the tip

the esc on my e savage had a fan plug on it already. i added one off a novak esc i had laying around and it plugged right in. really helps the esc!!

nitro engine, i dont think it would be worth it.

Running temp is part of a nitro's proper tune. Electrics NEED to stay cool.
Some units come with the cooling setup in the package, such as this Novak.

Yeah, a lot of esc's come with auxiliary ports for fans or other things.
As stated above your engine shouldn't be hitting dangerous temps unless you have a tuning issue. You can also cut a hole in the body to let air through.
