I will get my Savage 25 this week if local customs fianlly releases the package from Tower.

Just some questions.

I live in Denmark, and it is getting quite cold here this time of year, and it will be for the next loooooong time.

Is there any problems in breaking in the new tuck at these somewhat low temparatures??

The instuctions that came with my T-maxx 2.5 said to break it in at a certain temparature (unable to remember right now, but it was in the summer range for Danish standards)

I don't think I can wait 4-5 months untill the weather gets warmer with driving the tuck.....

Or should I just wait... (pleaze say no hehe)

Any "rituals" in the Savage world I should know of before turning the engine for the first time. Putting ARO in or anything.

If I decide to wait. Is there any special long time storage info I need to have ??

Hope this is not too many questions.

Kind Regards

Allan Jensen (who misses the warm Florida weather now) :hi:

You could break the engine in during the winter, but the outside air temps where you live would probably not allow the engine to get all the way broken in. So the answer is yes and no. Which would I recommend? Wait until it is warmer outside or until you can do it in a warmer climate.

Just out of curiousity, define "quite cold".

yea i think it would affect it a litlle and by the way sky it just maybe me but ur sig doesn't show up

OK. I think I will wait then.

Btw. What id the recommended temps during break-in ??

Seems to me that Traxxas's temps are a little high. their recommended temps are almost as high as it gets here on one of the good days during the summer.

Sky: Your sig. is here when I look. :-)

Thanks all for the replys.

I bought my Savage21 from New York in March. I did the break in at the end of April here in Finland. And it was COLD here then! I mean like -10C, I guess thats something like 0 F. Only thing I had to do every time, I had to start the truck immediately after bringing her outside the house. I even drove it when it was -20C!
I know that may be serious abuse, but what could I do, I just had to drive! :devious: :devious: :snowman:

I havent noticed any problems because I did this cold break in.

Maybe you can do the waiting.....I know I just couldn't!!!

There is no way you are going to wait. Buy yourself an industrial heat gun, and warm up the engine with that.

I got mine when it was raining for about a week. I finally went to a factory with overhead parking and did the break-in there.

Have fun, once you get it running right, it is a blast.

Hehe. I like your replys... :-D

It should get here next week and it will then be approx. 13 degrees celcious = 55 F I think.

I now have afternoon access to our underground parking lot where I work. It is somewhat heated up to 20 C. I will do the break in there. I simply just dont think I will be able to sit and look at it for 5 months......

Regards

I wouldn't be able to wait. I'd go into the garage with a heater or something. First tank is pretty much just sitting the idling on a block of wood or something, so a garage would do just fine for me. Then if your garage was big enough, do the 2nd tank running around the garage.

55 degrees Farenheit is not too cold. -10 Celsius...now that is cold. Running in -20 Celsius is even colder.

It is not the running in cold that is the real problem...it is the too rapid cooling that can happen in extreme cold that can cause internals to warp and buckle...or even shatter. It is your ride, use your judgement.

The heat gun trick is a must to get the engine warmed up...or the engine may not start for you. I would recommend using the heat gun to help cool the engine down gradually or get the truck indoors quickly to ensure that you are not going from a 250 Farenheit engine to a 0 Farenheit engine too quickly.

One thing you MUST do with these savage 25s is to threadlock the backplate on these things. I learned this the hardway when my engine was trashed within 2 days of owning the truck. There are several threads on the threadlock issue on Savage Central's forums and also on HPI's forums.

zerinS4:

Thank you for the noctice. I have allready read alot on this issue. I will be disassembling the truck totally anyways. I have bought a failsafe (have them on all my rides) and a Hitec 645 MB servo.

I think that I will be replacing the shockoil with some silicone oil instead of the provided "spooky substance" they put in.

Regards

break it in, in your kitchen and make everyone in the house go outside for a couple of hours....
Kidding of course:hump:
