I'm thinking of getting the Savage and just selling my T-Maxx 2.5. I was hoping to hear from those who have done the same to get their feedback. Likes and dislikes, etc. If ya had to do it over, would ya??? I'm sure the Savage purists are all gung ho but I still only want to hear from those that owned the T-Maxx 2.5 for now.

Thanks for the time.

If I had to do it over again, I'd go with a Savage or MGT. I feel that they are alot more durable and less expensive in the long run in replacing parts.

I owned a T-Maxx .15 before, does that count?

I love my Savage SS. I can have fun with it and not worry about breaking it or having to tune it all the time. Did I mention that it's fast, even with the S25? I'm even running the lower tooth CB in mine and haven't tried the larger one. (The SS and RTR25 come with 2 CBs but the amount of teeth on them excapes me at the moment.)

I sold my Maxx and baught the Savage SS. I'm very pleased with the Savage, but I missed my Maxx and ended up buying 2 used Maxxs off the FS forum here. The Savage is alot tougher and gets more use than both Maxxs?

I bought a 2.5 maxx, hated the engine, tried an os 15 cv-r, to weak still. Converted to a 21 with an xtm kit and OS 21 RG. It was ok, but still not what I wanted. Bought RRP steel everything I could find, upgraded shocks to UE Supermaxx shocks. Bought RPM arms, new era roll bar, engine blew up (stupid OS!!), bought different engine, Omega 21 Comp. To much power for the maxx, broke lots of parts... gave up.

Traded my st for another maxx. I had sold my 2.5 chassis plate about a month after installing the 21 kit. Took second maxx, converted to 2wd and put a orion 18 in it. Drive it to death with minimal parts breakage.

Since I dumped so much $ and time into my 21 maxx, I knew I couldn't sell it for anywhere near what I put into it. So, I tore it apart to not be provoked to repair it from it's final outing. I took some of the good components off it and put them on my little maxx (al bulks, UE shocks, new era roll bar, cvd's, pro-line steering kit, servo's...)

I now have a savage that I found from skymaxx as a roller only. Took the Omega and put it on. Bought another set of UE shocks and new era upper arms so I could have the shocks on both my trucks. Also did a ofna tank mod on it.

Now I have 2 trucks that I actually enjoy. Having the 21 maxx was making me hate the hobby. After all the $ I put into the 21 maxx to make it durable (about $2000) it still broke a lot.

The little 2wd maxx cost me a 2 year old used and abused xxxnt and about $200 in better parts, the savage roller cost me $200. Additional parts for the sav (shocks and whatnot) was another $200.

So, for roughly $400, I have 2 trucks that I enjoy driving and beating the crap out of that are both pretty dependable. With the little maxx not having many stock parts on it and the savage being mostly stock, the savage is still the cheaper, stronger and more dependable route to go.

I would never attempt to build a 21 maxx again. I would also tell everyone who is thinking about it to stop, save their money and buy something (anything) that is designed for a 21.

That's my story. Sorry for the long post. I just would hate to see anyone throw their $ away like I did.

I can agree w/ Olds on this one. I had a Maxx & dumped over $1000 into it. I hated that thing, it never held a tune & always gave me problems. Even the hop-up parts couldn't take much abuse. It rarely made it through a whole tank w/out something happening. I finally got fed up w/ it and stripped her down & sold her piece by piece.

With the money from the Maxx, I bought the Savage 25. I have done some customization to her, but barely put a dent in the wallet doing it. I regret buying the T-Maxx & would highly recommend anyone else to check out the Savage first.

Only get the Maxx, if you have $$$ to toss away, and enjoy spending more time working on your truck in the garage then at the track. I know that for every 15 minutes of run time I got out of it, I spent an hour fixing something. It's just a big headache and a money pit.

I went w/ the Savage & never looked back. I don't even post anymore in the T-Maxx forum. That's how much of a difference there is b/t the two of them.

Later....:mex:

A revisit to a good conversation...

If I had the choice between the two rides and I knew what I do now about both, my first choice would be to go with the Savage. As it was, the T-Maxx was the king of the hill when I bought my first MT.

The end result was a ton of money spent on upgrades, spare parts and replacements for damaged parts with my T-Maxx finally getting sold. Did I enjoy it while I had it? Hell yes. I put that thing through everything I could imagine. Check my gallery for some of my escapades with my T-Maxx.

Then I bought a Savage. Why? I couldn't afford a SuperMaxx conversion like I had hoped. So, I did some reading and research on the Savage. After I was done, I went and bought a Savage and some upgrades that were must haves for the first generation Savage .21. After that, I spent very little on replacement parts. In fact I think the most damage I sustained for the first few months was a spur gear getting toasted. Then I started to get creative with the Savage and spent another chunk of change (maybe $500) on some upgrades I wanted to have (note they were not necessary...but I WANTED them). In the end, my Savage may have cost me about $1200 total. The T-Maxx...well over $2000.

Was the Savage a better deal? In my opinion, hell yes.

SO GO FOR IT.

I can't speak quite from experience (yet), but I've just taken the plunge and purchased Kdot's Savage (with many mods).

Got my 'Maxx last July, break-in went great. Then immediately after break in (talking, the next time I tried to start it) I was having engine issues. Ended up being the stupid composite carb (end caps were stripped out). Got a new carb body from Traxxas, then the engine wouldnt run so well (guess what, unkown air leak = toasted engine). Traxxas gave me a new piston and sleeve. Truck ran pretty well after I got the engine back, but of course I was breaking parts. Front bulks, front skid, front arms, hinge pins, and a couple stock shocks. All within a month or two. But hey, took it in stride and replaced everything. Just when it was back together and running great, my air filter fell off without me seeing it (mental note, no more dusk-time driving). Engine never ran right since then, but I limped it to the end of the season, just playing with it and dealing with the overheating.

Over the winter I upgraded a slew of stuff.....bulks, chassis, a-arms, skids, braces, etc. Even bought a Fantom for it. Finished break-in of the Fantom last week, now my possessed 'Maxx apparently likes breaking the antenna. No matter what I do, the antenna breaks after a very short run time. Now its just pissing me off, so I've given up and am getting the Savage. Hoping to have better luck, and it seems I will. I've given up on looks and top speed. I want to go out, drop the truck on teh ground, fill it with fuel, and play. Right now ANYTHING but a Tmaxx seems to be that easy, and teh Savage has plenty of durability to boot.

My advice is to look for a nice used Savage, at adecent price. if you dont like it, you wont lose as much as a brand new one. If you *do* like it, you ended up with a good deal.

Ill be reporting back after I finally get to PLAY with my truck more than I FIX my truck (classic T-maxx owner syndrome).

Ok, going to do it. Thanks guys. Got more questions but they deserve their own threads.

The only nitro truck I own is a Maxx. In my right mind I can't give it up til I get some satisfactory run-time out of it.

I bought it a year and a half ago. The only stock parts are the bumper mounts, body mounts, wheels and tires, transmission w/some gears and the gas tank.

It's got a Picco 26 Outlaw with MotorSaver filter, THS pipe, HCR .21 conversion chassis, HS645MG and HS5645MG servos for t/b and steer, UE7.5 diffs, Robinson FOC, MIP axles, RPM arms, skids and bumpers, Associated shocks with Trinity springs, JR XS3 sythn receiver and Venom F/S, scottm's RCSolutions bulks, alum towers, Acer bearing kit, ... uhhh... Blazer's old C/F radio tray and 1200 nimh hump pack with neatly wired harness and Ernst receptacle...

I should build these for someone who can run 'em and not make stupid mistakes.

I've been away on a video project. (link to be edited in here later)

I took a break and ran this truck about two weeks ago for the first time in about four months. Started great, ran good, it was a lot warmer since the last time I ran it so I figured I wouldn't have to richen it up. About 3/4 way through the tank it was losing power. No detonation. No bogging. Just losing power. Brought over the temp gauge. Off the scale on a little 400° temp gun. Shut it down. Ten seconds later it was 387°. Found that it ate my pull-start and fried the one-way. I have a good-size hole in the right half of the windshield. I think I need to cut it all out and put in a reinforced screen. Other details here.

This is potentially a kick-ass truck but I wouldn't do it again.

1. I did the Maxx already
2. It was spendy
3. Have yet to see the ROI

Has anyone replaced a one-way and pull-start on a Picco Outlaw?

Shameless plea here.

I've just done the change (just got the savage wednesday) did break-in wednesday and did some light bashing today untill it gets broken in some more. I'm loving tha savage so far. The only difference in the two that i dont like is that the savage is noticably slower and doesn't seem like its has a high RPM engine like tghe 2.5 and now fantom thats in my maxx.

I got toatally sick of my MAXX it was broken more thatn i ever used it some times i wouldny use it for 1 week or 1 1/2 months because it was just always broken. I'm hoping my savage will treat me good and no break.
