What are all the sizes I need for the T-Maxx. Tired of the tools it comes with.

1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0mm.

The 1.5mm are for the pushrod collar grub screws.

Get some good 2.0 - 3.0 for everything else.

you will need a 1,1.5,2,2.5,3 mm hex head drivers.and i think a 2mm and 3mm wrench

In addition to the usual straight tools I recommend that you add one of these to your field kit.

Bondhus #125952 7Pc. Hex Set (1.5 - 6MM)

Its a wonderful tool, and is the one I reach for most often. (In fact - I only use my regular hex drivers when I can't use the Bondhus one because of clearance issues.)

I need to get another one, as guys are always borrowing mine. :)

Whatever you end up with - make sure you get tools with flat ends. Ball-ended drivers are nice if you need to get at a screw from an odd angle, but do not have enough surface area at the tip and cannot transfer as much torque.

i just got a very nice Trinity 3.0 mm hex driver, $10.99 but it is great, a lot better then those L shaped things.

After hearing recommendations from a few about hex drivers I purchased both the metric and standard sets from Ofna. These are worth every penny IMO.

Ofna Standard

Ofna Metric

I also remember reading good things about the Losi drivers.

I'll get mine at Sears. Craftsman tools have a lifetime warranty and you can return them for a replacement no questions asked, no receipt needed. Only ever had to replace a tape measure that I dropped once too many times

Without a doubt, everyone needs a quality set of hex drivers, such as the Ofna ones shown in the link in previous post. After you get one of the good hand sets, I recommend adding a couple of the 1/4 drive ends; particularly 2mm and 2.5 mm. Use them on a cordless driver and you will be amazed at how fast you can assemble and dis-assemble these vehicles.

Nitro House has tons of these drivers. Check them out:

Of course, when you use the 1/4 drive ends, you need to loosen up the clutch on the drill/driver, or you will strip out all your screws in a hurry. I usually just snug everything up with the drill/driver, then finish tightening by hand. :devious:

Thanks for the link! I have been looking around for hex drivers for my drill for some time but never found anything to my liking. I might just have to give these a try.

Well, I am going to Sears tonight, I will let you guys know what I get. Those other sets look nice and all but I have been using Craftsman tools for years, why switch now.

You'll switch because Sears does not have these tools. I checked already.

What? You mean the people a Craftsman aren't into R/C. What is this world coming to!:horsecrap

sears does not sell metric hex drivers for some unknown reason. its either the folding onces or the L-shaped ones. They make hex drivers in standard but not metric. sad but true...

Well, I found out the hard way before I checked in here.

mcmaster sells the 1/4" tips cheap. I just bought a couple and $40 worth of screws. I did the math. If I would have bought all these screws in the 6 pack du-bro it would have been around $400!

The tips fit their screws pretty good. I figure 100pc box of 3m screws for $5 can't be beat! Plus, they sell hand drivers as well for a couple bucks.

It might be worth your while to give it a look. www.mcmaster.com

olds, did you find a 3mm assortment? I was looking but did not see one. Man, they gotta lot of stuff at that site, whew.

I don't know if the have an assorment. I just spent $40 on the following:
Cap Screws:
3mmX15 - 100
3mmX20 - 100
3mmX25 - 100

Button head:
3mmX10 - 100
3mmX15 - 100
3mmX20 - 100

All are the black oxide coated alloy steel. I used stainless once and hated them. Not from this place though...
