I always wipe the body down with Denatured Alcohol or something similar to make sure it's clean. If you're using it on a painted body, don't get the solvent on the inside or the paint at all.
Spray a little bit of Windex on the body and apply decal. Squeegee the excess Windex from under the decal and then let it sit for awhile. The Windex will evaporate leaving the decal securely attached. The Windex will allow you to adjust the decal by gently sliding it into the position you want. Works very well wheather the model is painted on the inside or outside. Windex will not attack the paint unless it's a water based paint.

Shouldn't you be sure that Windex is Ammonia free?
Anyway, I've always used a little baby shampoo in a spray bottle with filtered water on automotive vinyl decals but regular stickers I just eyeball it with the sticker on the tip of a razor blade that way it is easy to stick without being stuck to your finger or your fingers getting oil on the sticker.
also just plain water will work.just spray a little and squeegee the water out.i use the same method on 1 to 1 cars and trucks at my body shop.with rc decals they are so much smaller than 1 to 1 that you can almost just stick them.
I always cut right along the edge of the sticker so the is not a bunch of exess sticker to deal with and then just eye ball it and put it on its always worked pretty good for me...

clean the area with a dry lint free rag. Then eye it up and apply it. If ya want even more security, warm it up a little bit with the hair drier, and let it cool. (this way all the adheasive warms up and gets sticky. then when it cools it bonds more)
