hi, pulled apart a 4.6 nirto and can't figure something out how do you put this thing in, (the image), how does that circular thing with rod work

That's the type that a spring & pin stays in the crankshaft itself!
If its not there ,then YOU better find it before it does damage!...

Hopefully, it's not inside the block. Without the pin and spring you won't be able to start it.
