Help! Servo choices

If you want a mid servo the HS645MG is great that is what I started with also the Jr mid range are good. But I think for top end the Air servos can't be beat! Just my .02

i think prolly cuz of the vibration that nitro cars have.. may have upset the digital part of the servo.. but i have the non digital servo in my gas truck.. and it works fine..

IMHO:
Low End: Hitec 625MG, 645MG
Middle: Hitech 925MG, 945MG
High End: Airtronics

200oz w@ 0.10 is extremely fast for 200oz.
125oz @ 0.06 is even faster for throttle.

When I use the 125oz @ 0.06 in my B4 it seems like the steering is wired into my brain and the response is lighting fast and can hold a line really well. Better than any other servo I have run in my cars.

I run the 200oz Air in all my cars for steering except my buggy.
For throttle I use the 125oz with lighting response and I have never had a problem.

I have used JR, Hitec, and Futaba in the past but found their life to be short along with the quality. Moreover, the performace was not really there. Airtronics has always been the best servo IMO and I would not change unless something magical came down the servo production line.

if you opened your eyes, you'd realise plenty of top drivers are using plenty of other brands - Futaba, KO, etc.... Check out the Kyosho team, i'm sure a large majority DONT use airtronics. Maybe the mugen team does. Regardless, the airtronics servos aren't the only ones used, and your claim is plainly false.

That aside, you didn't seem to understand what I was saying. Of course 200oz @ .10 is extremely fast for 200oz. Of course 125 @ .06 is even faster. My point was, that the ratings are a pile of... lets just say a little too good to be true. I am NOT saying they are bad servos, but I think they are rating their servos like ofna rate their engines.

If it was possible to make a servo that milked a true 200oz at .12s or whatever airtronics outrageous claim is, all companies would have something comparable. Anyone stopped to think about that?

I won't speak on what I haven't tried (okay so I have but I wont pretend to have tried something I havent). I've tried Hitec, but never owned. I've never tried a JR or even seen one in action. But I HAVE used Futaba gear for as long as I can remember, and am interested in which servo you had short life span issues, and quality issues with - specific details. Only asking because while i've heard the odd case of one going wrong (ohh yeah, i've heard of it happening to airtronics, JR, hitec, you name it..... everything breaks at one point or another) but I can't find any grounds for your complaint on quality - never had a complaint myself.

this all comes down to "to each his own" but seriously.....

Get what you can afford at the store of your choice whenever you feel like it.

There are a number of good to great servos out there for really reasonable prices. The hard part about digging through most of these kind of threads is that people post and crow about what they own. Sometimes those same people dog other equipment even if they have never used it.

I run HiTec servos. I have run Futaba servos. I like my HiTec digital servos and since I have never had any problems with them, I like to recommend them. Airtronics, JR, Futaba, and a variety of not so well know brands all make some decent stuff.

Were I in your shoes, I would buy the HiTec (because that is just me). If I had no experience, I would get what my LHS has in stock and carries regularly. Why? They can replace any servo that comes bad from the factory fairly quickly. They might also have some experience in repairing them or recommending how to do so.

So, go out and get a servo that you can afford and enjoy your ride.

Never heard of a futaba/airtronics/jr/ko just mysteriously dying like i hear about hitecs. Just going on what i've heard here, but if you don't buy a hitec you won't need that local backup or support.

One thing to note is it will be nice if your lhs stocks the plastic gear for whatever metal gear servo you buy, as they can strip once in a while.

I'd still reccomend that Futaba I linked to above, the 9350. $100 straight, and it should serve you forever - I have seen guys using these for season after season, year after year, and still going strong.

If you want something cheaper, and more middle of the road - try the 9451 (link below, $80). This will blast away any hitec anyway, but if you don't mind spending the little extra, get the 9350.

I love my JR Digi's in my buggy, but in my on road I have a Hitec digi and a Airtronics digi and they all are fast, strong, and precise, thing is a good servo will cost more than $70 imo seems after that all brands have a nice "upper line" Udi makes some great points, and I love the "rating their servos like their engines" lmfao!

Guess I am just lucky. I always carry spare servos, and end up giving them to my bash buddies. To date, I have not had to replace a single HiTec servo for any reason. Guess we each have our own experiences. As for back up and support, I always push the LHS to provide that. Support for a quality LHS is a good thing. It makes them better and gets you better treatment when you go.

Regardless, I still stand by my original post on this:

my hitech's only down fall is centering, and it is minimal. They are not my favorite servos but they make most of the micro servos for my little rc's. Tell you what if I had the money I would get the programable KO PROPO's not like I would program them lol!!! Just because you can I would get em. From what I read the favorite brand in buggy racing seems to be KO but hard to tell, I know I see it a lot!

everyone that i've talked to owning KO's has loved them. I've never tried one thats why i didn't say anything, but my friend made me a video of his KO 2344 in action on his buggy (the programmable one) and I thought it was pretty sweet.

I don't know what US shops sell them, but that would be at the top of my list too.

KO 2344, Futaba 9350. I'd have trouble deciding between the two, but they should both be great if you don't mind spending the premium. I think theres more value for money in both than airtronics non-digitals, and probably more bang for buck than hitec (performance...).

It really comes down to how much you want to spend in my opinion. The 645 will get the job done at $40. The 945 will get the job done a little quicker at $75. The Airtonics will get the job done quick at $100+.
