I was just on my local craigslist and found a savage x 4.6. He only wants 200 and says that the only thing wrong with it is that the crankshaft in the motor was busted. Is this a good deal and jump all over it or should I be cautious with it?

"ONLY" a busted crankshaft. That means it won't start, can't run.
Figure in the price of a new engine and whatever else might be wrong with it, and you'll have the same price to buy one brand new.
It's a parts car. $100, tops.

I dont think it would be a good idea for you to buy the truck if your asking if is worth $200 with the motor having a "busted" crankshaft, lord knows what else is wrong with it.

Do you own a nitro of any kind?

Nope not any more. And I miss read it it only has a busted crank. If I posted the link would it be better? To evaluate

Doesn't matter. A busted crank is a dead motor. If you tear the motor apart to replace the crank, you'll likely find more wrong with it, by the time you get done, you're better off buying a new engine, which will run you about $150 or more. That makes the $200 Savage into a $350 Savage, and you can get a brad new Savage with a good engine for $430-ish.

If he won't drop to $100, don't buy it.

It might be a blown trans that caused the engine to over rev and snap the crank. It's good for parts, and nothing more. Put the cash towards a brand new one. You won't regret it.

I have never seen a busted crank. it is the strongest part of an engine!

i also found a traxxas t-maxx 3.3 all he says it needs is a new glow plug he would like 200obo for it. no pic but would text or email them upon request? so yay? or nay?

You need to see it in person and watch it run. Otherwise you're taking your chances.

Rolex has got ya covered.
Word of advice, before you by anything RC, you need to verify that it runs/works without issue unless the issue(s) is known.

That is, unless you're knowledgeable enough to know what other problems could be caused by the problems described(if that makes sense), and skilled enough to fix those once you make the purchase.

Plenty of people buy used "broken" vehicles just to drop a few bucks and have them running again. I'm not saying it happens all the time...you just have to know which ones are the good deals.

I know a guy that bought a complete, used Savage X 5.9 for $275...the guy that sold it claimed it needed a new clutch. The guy that bought it fired it right up and ran it no problem.

Buying something online like that can be a crap shoot i wouldn't unless it was dirt cheap and you didn't care how much work it needs otherwise go new .:D

All true, I found a S-maxx 2.5r on craigslist, came with an extra set of wheel, wand, battery, chargers, tools, etc, Was claimed to be not running and in need of a new engine, I reset the carb back to factory and what do you know it started right up, richened it up a lil more and it really woke up...

The deals are out there if you know how to fix these things, I was prepared to put a brand new engine in it but didnt even need to, I scored it for $60 bux and all I had to do was clean it up a bit....

hey there this is michael and i say no never buy a used nitro rc car you can go on ebay and get a new one for that price and it will be brand new

If it ONLY needs a $5 glow plug, he should put one in, run it and make the sale.
It's just another excuse to make you think all is good, when in fact you have no idea what else might be wrong with it.

If it's running, no more than $200. If it's for parts no more than $150 IMO. Make sure that if the guy says that it's running that he actually starts it for you.
