ok i have been having some problems with my savage x 4.6 and i thought i had the problems fixed. well today i took my truck out for a drive it started right up and then i ran it for about 5 minutes and out of the blue it shuts off. so i try to start it but it wont fire. so i finaly got it running. then i ran it for a little bit but then rolled it once and it shut off and wouldnt start

i dont know whats going on or what the problem please respond and tell me what this is and how to fix/prevent it thanks

Change the glow plug and check for air leaks(header, pipe, carb, backplate, hsn housing, fuel system, ect..). If there is no leaks, you need to tune it right. What's your temps? It may just be lean.

first off i have no leaks i checked and my temps were around 240

ok today i took the truck out and tuned it down to about 210 degres and it ran fine i put a second tank in and boom it shut off and wouldnt start

Once you get it up to temps and it shuts off, spin the flywheel and see if theres any compression. Once it gets hot it expands and looses compression, it wont start untill it cools and contracts. How much fuel on it? Might be time for a pinch or new piston and sleeve.

well i thought it might be the temps but i let it cool and it still wouldnt start so i drained the fuel then primed it then tried to start it but it wouldnt start there is a little less than a galon on it

240 is about right on the temps. Does it bog or stutter before it stalls? Does it do it at lower rpms or all over the rpm range? Is it easy to rotate the engine with the glow plug in it? Just narrowing down the possibilities here.

it runs good the first run but on the second run right after i start to give it gas it stalls and I'm not quite sure what u mean by rotate the engine with the glowplug in

Turn the flywheel. If you can turn it and not feel it get tight, you need a pinch or a new piston and sleeve. You might want to check it once you have it up to temp. You might have little compression when cold but once up to operating temps might not.

I went through some old post because I had an idea that we discussed breaking in this engine in the cold. This is what we were warning you about. Now that it is warming up outside, the engine is expanding more and your most likely losing pinch. Time for a rebuild or new engine. I'd opt for a new engine and keep this one for winter running.
