RC Driving Style
Hello all. I'm brand new to the rc world, and bought a Hpi Savage x 4.6 and am having trouble breaking it in. i started to run the first tank and the wheels were going flat out, I'm pretty sure they are not supposed to do this because its in neutral? I'm pretty sure I've set everything properly, including neutral, full throttle and brake. I got told it could be a clutch issue? If anyone has any help it would be much appreciated. Thanks heaps
Scotty

Don't quite understand. So you started it up and it ran off wide open? Can you please be more specific of what happened?

There's a small screw on the carb that adjusts the idle. Set that screw so you idle gap is 1mm or the thickness of a credit card. To verify you need to pull the air filter off. In your manual it will show you where this screw is on the carb. Once you have it set, and the wheels still want to go, turn the low speed needle counterclockwise to richen it up. When you play with the LSN and HSN only make 1/12 to 1/8 turns at a time. Again your manual will show you where these needles are.

1. Set the idle gap
2. Adjust the LSN so it idles nice and smooth and won't die
3. Then start messing with the HSN, only to get your temps between 200-220f for the first gallon.

IMO a rtr motor such as the F4.6, is just that an rtr motor. I never waited a full gallon before I started driving the crap out of both of mine. I say learn to tune on that motor, then upgrade later to a better quality motor that will last longer.

hi guys, much appreciated for your help. yeh I've tried to adjust the idle screw, but it does nothing? I've turned it at small increments and its never done anything, only the thottle trim on the recieve changes the gap in the carb. also, what i mean is that wen i first tried to break in off the ground the wheels were spinning flat out. I've tried agen and they still do. its like the screws do nothing? any more info would help alot.
thanks alot guys, cheers

set your throttle trim to 0 remove the servo horn from the throttle servo and turn the electronics on this will center the servo and remove your air filter so you can see the carb barrel. Put the servo horn on top the servo without actually pushing it on and close the carb gap manually yourself then push the servo horn onto the servo and put the screw in and apply throttle and brake while looking at the carb barrel to be sure its opening and closing properly. This should fix your issue.

when your doing a break in its normal for the wheels to spin freely it even says this in the manual. When i did my first truck i was messing with the LSN while i was going through the break in and ended up making bigger problems and had to do an excess amount of work and tuning to get it to run normal. Have you completed the 4 tanks of full break in yet?
