I am a T-Maxx owner. I have the original Maxx and am happy to say it is a durable little truck. Breaking parts is a part of this hobby, and which parts you break the most often is going to be determined by your set-up, hop-ups, and driving skill (or lack thereof).
My T-Maxx is "slightly" modified/hopped-up and to date I have broken:
1 set of rear bulkheads, a few rod ends (both on shocks and turnbuckles), multiple centerline drive shafts (these are my built in weak link), one smoked plastic spur gear (upped to steel, no problems since), and one rear skid plate.
I am getting a Savage and don't plan to leave it stock for long. I'll be upgrading the mill as soon as I can find one I like, beefing up the suspension (as I like to fly my trucks more often than not), new tires (Proline BiG Joe 40 series), and a number of little nice to haves.
Were I to recommend a truck, I'd say either the T-Maxx or the Savage. Both are great and you'll have fun no matter which you get.
As for budget, regardless of which one you get you will break stuff. That is part and parcel of this hobby. Just start acquiring spare parts as you go, and as Pirata says: Drive, break, repair, repeat.
WLECOME TO THE HOBBY!
