Hi, I'm looking to get into nitro Cars, I'm looking for a Truck with 4WD Where I live I have access to quite a bit of grass, gravel, dirt, woods to mess about in so A Truck is what I'm looking for, Can someone help with some ideas, I want the RC to be Upgradable I want it to grow with me, I've messed around with someones a few years ago and Really enjoyed it. I was Liking the parts and upgrades the Traxxas had, But I Figured I'd give a ask to the RC Heads :)

Thanks, Tyler!

fro me i really like traxxas for the simple fact that all the shops in my area support them and the design of their trucks make them easy to work on when i break something
a few questions you need to ask yourself is ,do i have local support for the brand of truck i choose and how much i want to spend and what you want from the truck.a few years ago i got my brother into the hobby with a nitro stampede and with no experience he was having a ball with the thing and for the crazy stuff he does with it ,it has held up well
myself i found the stampede a bit small for rougher terrain but still fairly capible, thats why i started with a t maxx and give it a good thrashing and now have 5 t's and an e maxx i have just reciently got into revos and have to say it is a very veratile truck meaning you can make it a racer or a basher the choice is up to you

Yeah, All the Local Shops around here carry Traxxas Parts, I'm looking to spend 500-550 but I can Add more if that's what it takes to get something decent, I've been looking at some Revo's and it seems to be in the price range.

Thanks, Tyler!

If you can afford it, the Revo is the way to go. I got the original Revo 3.3 (#5309) and never regretted it. Make sure that you break it in properly before you really start beating on it.

Sweet, Yeah After some reading I think I'll pick up a Revo 3.3. Thanks so much for the help guys, is there anything I should pick up along with the revo add on wise?

Thanks, Tyler!

i would prob grab some spare plugs and maybe air filter elements other than that you should be good to go

Plenty of fuel, plenty of batteries for the receiver and transmitter, after run oil and some tools to do simple work on it. Like a glow plug wrench in case you flood it or need to replace the plug, probably some good hexes and a good set of phillips and flat heads.

When I go out in to the field to bash my nitro pede I basically bring everything I would need to fully disassemble and reassemble my pede. Which isn't that much.

I have also heard nothing but good about the motor saver filters. I'm not clear about posting links here but if you google motor saver airfilter it will be right there.

The Revo is definitely the better choice of the traxxas 4wd monster trucks. It handles so much better than a stock tmaxx and is actually a much tougher truck stock. First chance you get to upgrade anything buy the RPM suspension arms all around. Keep a couple of spare spur gears and glow plugs for sure being new to it. Follow the instructions well on breakin and tuning because the 3.3 is notorious for breaking the rod and locking up engine if you run it too lean. I agree on tools as well. A nice 4 piece set of metric hex drivers is a must have for all rc repair and i recommend titanium nitride coated tools. You can pick up a nice 4 way plug wrench/multitool for around $10-$15 either at the local hobby shop or ebay. A good glow ignitor as a back up in case the ez start wand goes out. A 5 cell hump pack to replace the 4 AA batteries for longer runtimes between charging and i also recommend buying a decent multi charger for faster and more specific charging. The upgrades for the revo are about unlimited just like the tmaxx. Good luck with your purchase and getting her broke in correctly and welcome to Nitro my friend.

Thanks, I'll be sure to pick all these goodies up :) Yess, I Liked the Traxxas Products because you can upgrade and mod them up pretty good and that's part of the fun :)

I would never run a Revo without a rear wing.
What does the wing do? Create down force ?

Okay I'll look them up, Yes being prepared is a good thing! Got it fuel, batteries, Tools, spare parts :)

Sounds good! :) I'll watch out for some deals, I'll be buying in the next couple of weeks.

A rear wing will give a little down force and make for a better balanced, better handling/jumping rig and it makes a good carrying handle and wheelie bar.
The main reason I recommend it and wouldn’t run a revo without one is protection.
I’m not a fan of cages, without a cage or a rear wing the engine head is very susceptible to a hit from the ground in a crash.
1 good hit to the engine head and you can break the engine mount easily, bend/damage the cooling head and in worse case break the block. The engine bay in the revo is prone to bending when the engine head takes a hit, once bent the angle between the spur and bell is changed and issues arise with clutch bell/spur gear mesh and clearance between the air filter neck and the spur gear.
The wing also greatly extends the life of the rear of the body and helps prevent the common bent/broken stock engine header.

That makes sense, So Is there a certain brand or type of Wing you'd recommend?
