HELP!! NTC3 steering issues......

Really hope you guys can help me here. I just recently purchased an RTR NTC3. I purchased the 2-speed tranny as well.

Here's my problem, after break-in, when I would peg the throttle on take-off, it would pull to the left REAL hard. I would get it straight but then when I let off the throttle, it would pull back to the right real hard. Making it very difficult to handle. I took the steering rack down and re-placed the bushings with bearings. Well, it was missing the bottom bushings......LOL Anyways, that helped but it still does it. I've tried to tighten the front diff and loosen it as well. Nothing seems to really be helping. I've ordered a Hitec 625mg servo for steering as well as some RPM ball cups, but havent got them yet from Tower.
If anyone else has had this problem please give me some insight on how you "cured" this illness.............Thanks in advance!!!

look I had the same problem with my kit NTC3 and a fellow meber helped me out . He told me to adjust a certain shock. I have the threaded shocks since I got the build kit!

Since you have the RTR NTC3 you should invest in two things! Threaded shock kit and the XXX-main touring car set up guide. You will THANK me for it!!!

Jon2 nailed it on the head - BUY THE XXXMAIN TUNING GUIDE.

If it pulls to the left upon acceleration, and to the right on braking or coasting, then here is the simple fix.

Attach a single 1mm spacer on the left rear shock, and a 1mm spacer on the right front shock. Continue to add spacers until the problem is resolved.

The reason for your problem, is that the back left wheel is getting too much traction upon acceleration, pulling the car to the left, adding spacers in the shocks will decrease traction the given wheel, thereby eliminating the problem. when you are braking, weight is transferred forward, and the front right wheel is getting more traction than the left. this is causing it to pull right, adding the space on the right wheel will decrease traction there and help the car track striaght. hope this helps, let me know if i can help anymore

Thanks guys!! After checking the shock spacers on the rear I found that I had way to many on one side vs. the other, "evened" out the spacers and it now handles ALOT better!! Still got a slight pull in it but I think thats got more to do with my tires than anything.

I'm considering going to pre-mounted foams for it, anyone have any feedback on which "brand" is the best? I run in a parking lot with asphalt, It's not smooth by no means but not rough as crap either...LOL average parking lot..........Thanks guys!!

buzzard - congrats on ixing the problem = foams - the way to go - what ever brand your LHs sells is fine, just make sure to go with a 40 or 45 shore rating to get some decent life out of them

Hey Addict, not sure which foams to get. Looking at Tower, (my LHS doesn't carry anything,) but not sure which foams will work on my NTC3. I'm looking to get some TRC foams

i personally recommend either Trinity TRC foams, Foruni Foams, or Jaco Nitro Shoes, these are all great tires, with a nice solid truing

I don't really think that the brand has that big of a difference since everyone doesn't drive in the same place or as often . What really matters is the shore rating that best fits the driver. The general rule is the higher the rating the longer the tire will last. The lower the rating will give the driver the best traction but they sacrifice the life of the tire. I think you should just use a higher rating if this will be for parking lots and streets. If you will be running on a controlled or groomed surface than try the lower shore rating. I have tried Both Ellegi's and jaco's and recently TRC's and none had longer lasting life on parking lots. It's all about the driver's choices!! Make a good one!

Hey Nitrobuzzard Call me Jon ..I have 35 -45 shore. I have had all of them the same amount of time and run each equally at different times. I find that they have lasted for a good 10 runs. but the 35 shore I have replaced already since they give me the best runs. Hope this helps. Make sure you check out your shock oil density. What car are you running again?

Hey Jon, I've got a NTC3, RTR version, I've re-built the shocks using 20wt. oil....Running the stock springs that came with it. I'm slowly in the process of getting it up to "race level"........LOL.....Only racing I do is with my buds on the week-ends but I really enjoy rubbing it in their face when I smoke'em.......LOL

that's good to hear your NTC3 is kickin some arse. Have you tried upgrading to the threaded shock kit from Associated? You will love em!

Instead of guessing with preload, get the car on a tweak board and have someone who knows how to set up a car help you out.

When you get to the point that the car is torque steering no matter what you do, it's time to invest in "The chassis". Lighter than the hardcore with almost ZERO torsional twist, the BMI racing chassis is a must have.

Actually, I'm getting a set of those shocks this week. I got the foams ordered and should be here by Thursday or so, can't wait..........hehehe.....

Do the "sway bar" kits actually help the car? I had a set on an RS4 2 but I didn't really see any difference in it.

JohhnyD, I wish I had someone around where I live to show me how to set the car up but unfortunately, there's not anyone. So therefore, trial and error method comes into play again.....LOL BTW, thanks for the info on the chassis, don't think I'll be taking that route but thanks the same........

I tried the sway bar kits and wsn't really impressed. I followed the instructions but no big difference except in tight turns. I do like the carbon fiber radio tray ..that helped with tweak from the chassis

I've been thinking about upgrading my radio tray but was un-sure which one to get. Jon, if you would, link me to it at Tower please. Not to sure which one you talking about. They offer 2 different ones and in the description they sound the same. The pics are different but they've been known to have the wrong pics on the wrong parts......Thanks!!
