hi everyone, i have a hpi r40 that came with a 2 speed transmission and the bad part is.... it wont shift no matter how many time i tighten/ loosen it. Is one of the round things with teeth on it supposed to move with the other one? PLEASE HELP ME

You might have the 2 speed put together backwards. Double check it with the instructions. If you put it in backwards, it will never catch the latch and will never engage the 2nd gear.

Sounds like you really need to start reading your manual. I'm not trying to get on your case, but when you say "one of the round things with teeth on it ", you wont last long around here...

i say that saying because i just got a gas car like 4 days ago and this is my first rc car. So dont u be going fiddlesticking around with me k. because the manual told me no crap as to what each part is.

what do u mean by backwards mugen racer?

chill pill bro, we are just trying to help u out here. as far as the 2 speed might be backwards, is that u need to take it apart and check to make sure they are all going the way they need to go. cause when i had my rs4 and when i stuck the 2 speed i put the 2 speed on backwards the first time and it would shift, turned it around the right way and BAM it shifted

1. Noone's messing with you
2. Calm down, we all try to help each other here
3. If you can't take a little good humored criticism, then you're gonna get your feelings hurt alot in life, not just here.
4. the "round things" with teeth are gears. The one's you're addressing are spur gears. The one's on the end of the engine are pinion gears.

dont sweat it dude!!!! but they are right when they say read the manual, I know testosterone tells you you dont need 1 but they are quiet usefull after you give in! my 2cents:ale:

I was trying to help. The piece I am referring to that might be backwards is A881. Picture is below in step 3.

I-72516-P1.jpg

That piece has a piece that flings out when the rpms are up and then that piece catches a notch that is on the inside part of A880. That in turn engages your 2nd gear. Now, if you've got A881 flipped backwards, that piece that flies out will never catch the notch and you'll never engage 2nd gear.

Ok. That was new to me. My bad. Arrow is correct. The 2 shoe is slightly different and is just like my trinity reflex. Adjustments for shifting is the outside screws. The center which has a ball bearing inside is actually tough to adjust. Tighten both evenly and allow a little play.

Basically tighten Z216 all the way down and then back it out about 5 turns. Both sides. Then tighten the 87108b down and when you do, you'll notice that it seperates the shoes. You want just a little bit of a gap.

Thanks Arrow for letting me know the R40 used the 2 shoe. Didn't realize HPI changed.
