My esc might be bad, i think. i am new to this hobby. When i go to plug my battery in it jolts like its on but it won't go and my esc light wont turn on. I figured out i lost my rubber stopper that plugs into my esc( after i bogged in a small puddle for a battery, but i don't really know what to do? is my esc bad? or is it just my battery? anything can help

What rig is this and what esc?

sorry its a rustler vxl with velenion esc, and also i messed up in my first post. I meant i bogged through a puddle, and i have a pretty crappy battery but i hooked up friends and it does the same
(jolts then wont turn on)

The Velineon VXL is suppose to be waterproof, but I'm sure there is a limit to that too before it frys. Just how deep did you get the thing bogged in?

early VXLs weren't labelled waterproof, only the latest generation are

Sounds like its done to me. Thats why I avoid water and mud with my rigs, Id rather not chance it.

I second that! I truly believe they should not really call them water proof or resistant because some people think they can operate underwater with them. Which is not really the case. They can withstand getting somewhat wet, say a little rain, dampness, or washing. But not submerging them.............just my 2 cents on this. ;)

I personally dont like getting my rigs that dirty really, it is fun to a point but having mud stuck in everything and seeing the little bolts rust doesn't do it for me....But I know tons of guys that-thats all they like doing with their bashers and scalers is submerging them.

I've know alot of people that have had problems with their vxl's too, this might be a good opportunity to go to a Mamba...Not water proof though.

used to avoid water like the plague... but gotta admit i'm a recent convert :)

since bashing around with Savages & Bajas and now TRXs mudbogging is FUN

since they're all splash/waterproof'd... just squirt some truckwash shampoo and
hose 'em off in the bathtub; sit 'em for a few hrs in front of a fan to dry & all clean again

After watching this video, I stand corrected. Not saying that yours isn't fried because maybe you have a leak somewhere, not knowing how old it is.

Look at this guy and a brand new Slash!

Just buy a new one....Traxxas XL5 out of a slash is the best all around ...no lipo cut off ..

ok so now my esc comes on but i have no power to the rear wheels. it tries to go but just sputters and spurts... could it maybe be my crystals? and if i do need a new esc can someone point me in the direction of a cheaper but reliable site?

OP's got a "VXL" brudda  can't drive a brushless Velineon motor with the XL5

Old folks strike again! :thumbup1: You are correct!

Still sounds like the esc to me. Do you want to stay brushless?

if you're US-located & you want to replace it with the same, your best bet
is to call Traxxas... they do good changeover fixed-fee service, so i'm told

what have you done to diagnose & rectify the fault to date?

check all connections, especially the 3 motor power wires - 1 may be dirty

i'd open up the motor and make sure its not got a jammed rotor etc
full of dirt and if the bearings are ok

reprogram the VXL, sometimes they can get confused

if you can cleanout the case of any dirt & stones; if you're not using the
sensor port you can seal it up with a dab of silicone sealant just to be safe

if you can get your hands on an identical Velineon & VXL to swap-n-change
testing would be a heap easier too to find out which is the bad part

so far i have tried a different battery tried reprogramming and checked all plugs and wires. and i should take it apart again to check the casing. the idea for siliconing the sensor port is a great idea. should have done that awhile ago. my cousin has the same rustler so i am going to have to swap and change

Check these out. It may not work for you now if yours is toast, but good for down the line to help you. I did this one my SC10 and it works!

btw does the ESC say "WATERPROOF" on it?

if it does then rest of truck should be ok too - no huge benefit to doing more
as the RX already sits in a splashproof box & TRX blue servos are water friendly

however that RX box should be opened periodically to let it airdry out
as condensation can collect inside
