I'm building a RS4 Evo for one of my VPs and he picked the HPI 911 turbo body to match his own Porsche. Of course he wants the color to match too!

I can't seem to find anything in Pactra spray that is even close. I've got a cheap air brush, but haven't a clue as to what I should mix (I usually use it for shadows and solid water colors with no thinning).

Here's a shot of it from the Porsche web site. Any ideas? Thanks!

I don't think that will be too tough. But you'll have to make friends with your airbrush. If you want to use rattle cans, you have to put up with what they offer. I use Parma Faskolor paints in my airbrush so that's the only thing I can reference. I would start with FasPearl Blue. That's a medium pearl blue. The blue on my British Speed 6 was done with that color and it's pretty close. If you need to alter the color a bit, either use a little Pearl Charcoal or Pearl White to change the shade. If you use regular black or white you'll kill the pearl effect.
Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

When I put the two side by side, to my eye it looks like you may want to add a little purple to the blue. I'd suggest Fasescent Purple if you're using Faskolor...

what candyman said will work. but if you want you can use a plain opaque blue then darken it wiht a brown. brighten it wiht a bit of yellow and if you need a white. add the brown white and yellow as needed. i have mixxed several custom colors for many things. i hope it works out for you.

OK, thanks, that pearl blue looks really close...

About how much paint does it take to shoot a whole body? I want to mix enough so I don't have to remix and get two different shades half way through the paint job!

It also depends on the monitor your looking at as well. I know one shade of blue on one pic will look the same on the monitor, but in real life, it may be way off or dead nuts on.

If you really care, try what these guys are saying on a piece of scrap and after it dries compare it to his real porche before you waste a body and a bunch of time and paint.

I suck at painting, but I've dealt with clients and pictures or backgrounds for web-sites.

yes olds is quite true about the color on the monitor. to paint a full body you will probably need about 1 ounce for the body. i am not too sure about faskolor but if its opaque then 1 maybe 1 and a half ounce should be good enough.

Well....

I know this is an older thread, but wanted to show the results. I couldn't match the car exactly since he lives in CT and I live in FL. But I ended up sticking with rattle cans. I laid two light coats of Pactra Translucent Candy Purple and then backed it with Blue Streak. I think it's pretty close for a rattle can job!

I just couldn't see myself buying 30 bucks worth of airbrush paints to mix and match for this project....
