I am looking into nitro. I want a good, reliable off-road RC nitro car for play & racing but not too wild (first nitro car for me). What extra stuff besides the car do I need to get? What is a reasonable amount I would have to spend to get everything I would need to get started?

Should I get a used car or not, and if so from where (local guys, or ebay)? All sugestions are happily taken for anything about nitro.
Thanks

my first offroad was a traxxas sport nitro.......bout 250$ ready to run......all ready to runs do have to go through a breakin proces.....my favorite is the savage which when i bought it new was about 400$.......the savage has many upgradable options.........if you buy from ebay check all the sellers feedback first......any more than 1 bad feedback out of 100 i would not buy from them myself.......better off buying brand new from the local hobbyshop or an good online dealer that way you dont end up buying someone elses headache........if you buy from ebay, the nitro could have several upgrades but if the engine is shot, thats another 150$-300$ you have to spend getting it running........then you got a decision......buggy, truggy, truck, 2wheel or 4wheel drive and what you wana use it for......bashing, jumping or whatever

If your going to race and bash, get a Traxxas Revo.
It's a nice all around truck, and the manual for getting started is great.

ill second the revo, i dont have one. but have heard great things about them.

imo, you should get a rechargable glow igniter & charger,
7.2v 6cell battery & charger (for the easy start on the revo), 5 cell rechargable receiver battery pack & charger (to replace the throw away batterys),
a failsafe, 2 -3 extra glow plugs ( they will die ), a temp gun (you dont want to overheat these motors)
& of corse nitro fuel, most use 20%......that would be a good start & should cost around $130 over the price of the truck

thanks and do you know a good place to buy rc nitro also what would you recommend for a engine and is there anything a little cheaper?

If ya get the revo 3.3 that should be enough to keep ya happy for a while. I guess it just screams.

+1 for Bruce at RushRc Good guy & good prices

what kind of area's do you have to drive in?...high/low grass, rough dirt?
or do you have a real rc track nearby that you will only be driving on

i have long and short grass in my back yard and a nearby hobby town usa with a great outdoor track went there today for a three day event just watching and i have been hooked for quite a while

I think if your looking to be competative and race and occationally bash in the yard, a hyper 7 rtr would be a great start. It is tough enough to bash and yet competative to race. But this is just my opinion.

does the hyper 7 have lots of upgrades and stronger parts for racing beacause i like the 3.3 but it is pricey for me. still haven't decided

Does anyone think I should get a 3.3 with duratrax fail safe installed, a hand held temp gauge, a duratrax deluxe car wrench, a shark 1500 battery pack for the e-z start, a few missing body clips, a worn and spur gear, and the opti-drive removed and the fail safe installed? It is going for around $350 (including shipping) as of now on ebay.

if asking about a ebay purchase try to give the link to the auction so the more experienced can see the pics & how its described

but in general ebay is hit & miss....if i were you i would buy new or from a respected/known member here only

Buy yourself a brand new revo 3.3.

You won't need to get a 5 cell pack w/charger because it comes with one. The revo is a great truck that is fast out of the box.

The hyper 7 is a great car, but imo its a dated rig. Ofna has come out with the hyper 8 and if you going to a buggy then there are many choices.

Don't go with the guy on ebay, if there are worn parts then I would stay away. For your fist vehicle don't buy a used. You may get one that is all beat up and costs way more then just buying a new one. And when things like this happen it usually pushes the noob away from the hobby.

okay but should i get the revo from my local hobby town usa or from somwhere else?
suggestions appreciated

what is this 5 cell battery pack and charger for anyway I AM A NEWBIE TO NITRO..........TOTALLY
