hey guys i'm planning to buy a os .18 tz p engine for my t-maxx. I've read that i need to buy a .18 tm crankshaft to make it work. is there another way? cheaper?

one more thing: i saw a .18 tm at my LHS . hows the tm compared to the tz? or should i buy the .18 tm?

sorry for the questions . i'm new to rc world:D

Unless you can find the TZ with a slide carb/pull-start, I wouldn't bother with it. By the time your done buying everything needed to make it work, your well beyond the price of the effort for that engine.

Even with a slide carb and pullstart version, your still going to need to pick up a OS specific header as the stock header and any header "made" for the t-maxx won't work.

You might be better off looking into getting a mid-block engine if your seeking more power than a 3.3.

Or if your just looking for something besides a traxxas engine, the dynamite 19 has been reported as having decent power:

thanx for the reply . the .18 tz p is a slide carb. i made up my mind. i'm going to buy the .18 tz p and put a .18 tm crankshaft in it. I've seen other people on forums doing this.:D

Pretty sure they use the TM crankshaft and backplate and starting shaft as well.
Backplate: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHKV9&P=7
Starter shaft: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHKW0&P=7

Then you will need to use a TRX 2.5 pullstart or ezstart along with their OWB.

Don't forget the TM header:

I've seen/had both the 18TM and TRX3.3, honestly, the power output isn't much different. The 18TM tunes way better, but that's about the extend of the difference.

So, that's a minimum of $110 for the stuff to make the TZ work. Hope you got that for a good deal. ;)
