iv got 2 Q?`s for u all
1:my nitro mt will not idol but it runs great when ever i put brakes on it stops
2:my savage ss runs perfect but it dont seem to be very fast all 4 wheels r getting drive so i dont know where to look next

any comments would be much appreciated
 
#1 if it dies when you put on the brakes, it is most likely linkage. When you hit the brakes, the throttle arm closes the carb off.

Check your linkage with the carb off. watch when you hit the brakes, the carb will close. Adjus it so that when you let off the gas, the carb closes completely. Then use the idle screw to open it up a bit. The idle screw should determine how far open your carb stay, not your trim on the remote.

#2 I would say tunning(could be too rich or too lean). Put your carb back to the factory settings. Tune from there, going about 1/8 to 1/.4 leaner on the HSV until you get some power out of it.

#1 iv set it so that on full brakes there is a 1mm gap if i set idle any higher the car moves forwards any other ideas

#iv just got this savage ss so ill have to do some home work on it

What I am saying is that the 1mm gap should also be in neutral (with no throttle).

I have a feeling that when your not touching the remote, there is a bigger gap, allowing the truck to idle.

When you hit the brakes, it pushes the carb closed to that 1mm gap, and it kills the car. Does that make sense?

I guess what I am saying is that when you hit the brakes from neutral something changes. It has to be the opening of the carb.
 
yes i understand but i can't get it to idle with out it moveing
 
Look at your carb opening with it fully closed. There should be a 1MM gap I do believe maybe two. Use a credit card as a gauge. That's how much it should be open. Adjust it from there. Ok as for if it won't idle without turning the wheels. You will need to tune the low speed needle. With that idle setting you should be able to find it from there. Just tune accordingly. It just might be running too rich at idle. That is usually the story.
 
How much fuel do you have through the engine? If your still in the break in stage, you may not be able to get it to idle down enough without dieing as well.
 
iv had lots of fuel through it iv had the nMT for a little while now but this is the first prob iv had i wonderd if it might be the engine needing a overhall but the 4 screws that hold the head on i can't get them out to look at the piston
 
Looking at the piston wont do you much good. Taking it apart is a last resort thing if you can't tell with the engine on the vehicle.

Clean the area around the glow plug thoroughly with a q-tip with alchohol or spray nitro cleaner down there with the plug in. Once clean, pull the plug out and rotate the crank shaft via the flywheel by hand when the engine is cold. You should feel some resistance as the piston gets close to the top. On a new engine, you probably can't turn it over with your finger. On a used engine, if you don't feel any resistance, it's probably shot. This resistance is called piston/sleeve pinch. The inner diameter of the sleeve is actually smaller at the top than it is at the bottom. As the piston rises through the sleeve, it gets wedged and causes binding. This is how nitro engines are built to create an appropriate seal for compression.

No pinch = no seal = no compression = dieing/dead engine.

You can send your piston and sleeve somewhere to get them re-pinched for a smaller fee that probably what it costs new. From what I've read, they tend to last longer after being pinched again than they did when they were new. Check ebay for sleeve pinching.

Or, you may have just developed an air leak somwhere that is messing up the works. I'd first check for pinch, if there is any, pull off the carb and put some hightemp sensor safe automotive silicone around the neck (after cleaning it with alchohol and q-tips of course), put it back on and let it cure overnight. Also, pull the backplate off the engine and do the same to it where it seals to the crank case.

Also, you can first try leaning out the low speed needle. It may just be running to rich for the weather your driving in.
