I am interested in getting started in this hobby. I have been trying to decide between a few trucks.

HPI Savage Xl
CEN GST 7.7
MGT 8.0

If someone could explain any benefits of one over the other I would appreciate it. I will probably not be racing it. Just going out to the mountains and hitting some jumps, climbing hills, etc. I do like the idea of having a reverse as I am lazy and if it gets stuck somewhere I don't want to have to trek out to it to move it. I want something with good torque for climbing. I would really be interested in a rock crawler type but I don't want electric. I would enjoy the challenge of seeing if I could get it to go over some kind of obstacle.

Also I have not been able to find any info on how long a tank of fuel lasts. I am not concerned with the initial cost but long term costs and how long the RC will last is a concern. I have read that typically an RC will last for maybe 10 gallons. But the only info I can find on run times was for a Savage XL where it would last approx 12 min on one tank. Now if I did the math correct that means that a gallon would last for approx 4.5 hours and if you are only able to use maybe 10 gallons, your looking at 45 hours of total life run time. So if I took it out every weekend for a few hours it wouldn't last me more than a summer? I don't understand the lifespan of these vehicles. If this is the case I will try to find an RC that is smaller and consumes less fuel and thus will last me longer.

Thanks for any help
Matt

i dont know if this will help but maybe a losi lst xxl.It has reverse so you can be lazy:D

this truck is good for bashing and climbing hills. But from the list you gave i would get the savage xl =p

Also for the savage xl you said a tank would last 12 minutes.I think that if you run at full throttle all the time then it would last 12 minutes. But if you run at different speeds, your tank would last maybe around 15-30 minutes =p:D

(i hope this info will help =p:D)

I have the MGT 8.0..It has reverse also.So does my a couple of my T-Maxxes.The .50 engines pretty good even though mine didnt last too long when rebar took the head clean off the bottom end aswell as other carnage but its rebuilt better than ever with a Axial.32 which has just as much torque and power plus its a dream to tune for me.Runtime is about 8-15 mins on 150cc's of fuel depending on the weather and how its driven and powertuned. The truck handles pretty well but like all Monster Trucks it has issues but not ones that cannot be overcome if your handy enough..Kyosho makes some nice Monster truck models also like the Mad Force...All I can say is to talk to your LHS guys in your area on which truck he stocks parts for and which one he can get replacement parts for faster because bashing=breakage and breakage=downtime.....Good Luck with your choice
