So I'm in the process of changing gears, I have the 17t pinion and 46 tooth spur optional gears installed and the chart under the motor does not have 17/46, only 18/46 as the closest option... do I just use 18/46 ( E ) instead?? The new belted tire xmax comes with 15/54 which they do have on the chart, but they do not have a letter for 17/46 Thanks guys

I'm telling you that a 17 and an 18 tooth gear thats the same pitch can't also be the same diameter.
I can't explain much of anything Traxxas does. 😉
Stick with the combos on the chart and you should be fine.
I don't know if there is another motor plate that eliminates that pin system either. You might want to do some shopping. 🤷‍♀️👍

Did some digging and apparently traxxas says you have to set the gear mesh manually without the pins... what the hell, didn't even know that was an option!?

Nor did I. As I said, I can't explain much of what Traxxas does.
The peg system was used to prevent the motor moving on impacts and messing up the mesh I'm guessing. Why/how they do both though is a bit of a mystery. 🤣

I was thinking about a new mount anyway because I don't feel so great about screwing into the plastic stock motor mount! Do they all work with the stock Xmax motor? Because I don't plan on replacing that any time soon, maybe I'll do the esc though.
I have no clue. @Tunedfrog bought one of their motor mounts, but I don't remember the exact issue he had because I think his motor was too big to get the right pinion on there ir something. Maybe he can offer some advice.

Exactly Kev. Using Their motor mounts limits what you can use.
I didn't want a super fast Xmaxx so I wanted to keep it a bit smaller.
The motor mount is for bigger motors so I had to use a bigger pinion simply because a
smaller pinion wouldn't reach the spur gear.

They have 3 different mounts there. I haven't looked into the differences in quite awhile, but if I remember correctly, they were for different motor setups. Maybe you just grabbed the wrong one or something?

If I remember correctly, the mount I purchased at the time was the only one.
I don't remember if they were out of stock or simply haven't made them yet.
I sent the huge motor and motor mount to Stoner but since he disappeared I have no
idea if he has done anything with it.
I'm perfectly happy with the stock motor I bought from Jennys.

Yeah, he was supposed to sell me his old electronics, but haven't heard back from him in a long time.

Wound up just using the stock 54t spur with the bigger 17t pinion so I can still use the alignment pins. Got 43 mph with that setup, not too bad considering I was expecting under 40!
