Just ordered mine! wondering if there is anything i should know as far as MUST haves or things that break easy.

Fuel filter, quality air filter, better servos, hump pack, etc, etc. The list could be endless and depends on what you do with the RC. I'd say that as long as you have the basics covered, then you should be good to the first crash...then from there, the real fun happens. Upgrade and repeat...

We have a local track that i go to and play on.. no real hard racing. THen also some playing around in the desert. I have a Jato 3.3 that i love to drive. Just hoping this one if fun and fast too..

I just finished my second Hellfire kit. The first one I sold to a Marine (they must have nitro as part of there R&R. Anyway, I met him through someone else and he wanted a kit built Hellfire with his choice engine. I guess I was unlucky on my first kit (a dogbone came bent ... imagine that .. bent, in a plastic bag. I guarantee any Jap kit would never have it, IMO).

I sent him his truck and he loved it. I always knew I would build one for myself one day. So the day comes and I start my second kit. Here are some of my complaints. You have to remember that my first 1/8 was a 777 SP2 and my main squeeze now is my XB8EC. So I am spoiled.

I did not like the way the diff sat in it's housing. The screws require either Herculean strength or just tap them first. (RECOMMENDED). The side pieces did not align correctly with the back plate and, again, this isn't wrenching here, this is a workout. I am 6' 1" and solid on top. It's a tough build so take your time and watch out for a blister in the inside ball of your right/left hand. That means your working it, so keep going.

Another thing about the diff. It is very noisy and rough. I am almost certain the problem is in the bevel gear and it's alignment with the bevel gear on the diff housing. The problem in shimming is that there is not many places you can shim. (Again, if you go Xray all of this writing is - n/a)
I felt the bevel gear (output shaft) needed to be further out. Away from the other bevel gear. I shimmed it out as best as I could and I did get the diff to be less noisy, but man that was 45 minutes I'll never get back again.

Also, I'm not a real fan of metal tower braces. I almost wish they put in the plastic ones from the RTR version.
I whacked my 777 once. I had Headz braces. Metal ... everything. I slammed a tree trunk that I didn't see. The metal brace transferred all of it's energy into what ever it was attached to. In this case my chassis. Twisted it like a pretzel. (BTW, did I tell you the XB8EC has plastic braces):spit: That was $80.

All in all it's a great truggy. If I had to do it again I may have gone with the RTR. I know how to put together already. I know every speck of dust. I would ride the stock engine to death and see what was left. Maybe go 30% nitro, shim the head and blast away. You know, all the things you never get to do to RCs'. Then I would pick up the pieces, put them back together and throw in a RB Concept ... if there was anything left.

So, to wrap it up. Be ready for some wrenching. You HAVE to invest in a tap set. 2.5 - 5 mm to start.

Good luck. H[anyofThis]H

i have 3 hellfires and have stopped racing them now, costing to much for my driving lol, but there a brilliant design and a good all round good starting truggy, just when its really hard and fast racing there type of plastic on the arms in nothing compared with mugen mbx5t which i am currently running.
good luck with it mate, after every 3 races check your diffs i went through 6 rear diffs at a main event after it i seen that the bulkhead had cracked and with loads of mud around it not knowing

i bought the hellfire SS and built it a few weeks ago, Seems like the perfect car for me, cause I'm not a racer or anything, jus like 2 go out get it good and dirty and bring it home. The only problems i have encounter with it where my own that happend during the build. I have a wobbly front right tire and extremely weak breaks. but with a few adjustments everything will b fine.

My big mistake was not putting thread lock on the screws, instead of going on my own intuition i listened 2 the book and only locked the screws they saw necessary but in actualitly any screw that it connecting or is close to the chassie needs thread lock.
