This past weekend I decided to go out and watch people fly there rc copters. They have a club and go out to a large open field and fly them about 5 miles from my house funny thing is I've never even went and checked them out and so close and I really love rc trucks. I was amazed what they can do this guy had one it was huge probally about 4 1/2 feet long. I couldnt believe how fast that thing would go up in the air it was like a rocket!! Then he started flying it upside down then upside down and backwards I had no idea they could do anything like that, he would also land it shut it completly shut it down then remotely start it up again and take off. Way cool, it was funny there was about a million prairy dogs out there and he was chasing them all over with it lmfao, Are all copters that mobile in the air? that thing freaking amazed me. I was also curious if they can lift small loads with them? The one that guy had sounded like it has some serious power anyway I have a new respect for copters.

I agree with u i just saw a video and loved them now i want one but I'm gonna get a simulator first. Very cool R/C's

The helis are just like the R/C cars and trucks. Upgrades. Bearing, engines, carbon fiber blades, etc. All geared to up the performance.
My nitro heli is 4 feet long and 16" to the top of the rotor. When I fly it, it's strictly scale, and all the stunt work and inverted flight is done on the simulator.
When you damage a heli, it gets VERY costly.
By the way, power off landings, or autorotations, are a MUST to learn before you can do anything else other than the hovering. If the engine quits in the air, or you run out of fuel, if you can't autorotate, you will watch a strange looking brick fall out of the sky.

There are two endings to high altitude heli flights where the engine cuts.

1. A beautifully controlled engine-out autorotation landing.
2. Stuff in the dirt.

Oddly enough, I've seen lots of planes go down and get totalled, but I have yet to see a heli get damaged. Probably since the amount of time spent on checking and maintaining is more than the time spent flying.
People take planes for granted, and often overlook the check ups they need.
Sure, you can glide a plane in, but not if a control linkage fails, or the battery pack wasn't charged properly.

I'm sue that guy I seen had lots of money into his copter that thing was insane. Sounds like I will stick with my T-Maxx lol lot cheaper to maintain and safer hehe knowing my luck I would crash a copter into myself then I would also have hospital bills!!

I know a guy that builds them, he has a webiste but I don't know it off the top of my head. He deals mainly with trubine birds. And like you guys said its amazing to see these things fly!

I thought all they did was basicly go up down foward and left or right, I had no Idea they where capable going backwards or upside down! And do it at such a high rate of speed

When a heli rises, it's because the rotor blades are given positive collective. Similar to the pitch on an airplane propeller.
To fly upside down, they are given negative collective. If you didn't give it full forward or reverse pitch or roll to flip it while doing that, you would be powering the heli straight down.
Full negative collective is also applied for autorotations. The heli is allowed to fall, and the air against the rotor blades keeps the head speed up, like a pinwheel held out of a car window. When the heli is close to the ground, positive collective is put in and will provide enough lift to land, since the rotor is still spinning at a good rate of speed.
Start to put in positive collective too soon, and the head speed decreases rapidly, and the landing will be hard.
R/C helis can do what the real ones can't because there's a clunk line in the tank to pick up fuel no matter which way they are flying.
Most importantly, pilot and passenger comfort is not an issue.

Thats cool nice to learn new things you should be a teacher Rolex lol well I guess you kind of are one here on the forum I know I have learned alot from you. I think I'm going to take the kids out to watch them fly there coptors this weekend Ill take my Camera if I do and get some pics. I still think I will stick to the ground like I said with my luck the results could be scary lmao!

Hey rolex u should putup fliers for ppl to call u if they need help tuning or with what ever rc related becaus u are very knoledgable of this hobby.lol

I've said it before, I don't know squat. I just make stuff up as I go along.
Quite often I'll stop by the LHS and I'll be hanging around BS-ing, and a total stranger will walk in and ask for me by name. I don't work there, but I'm there several times a week. Someone told someone, who told someone else which track I run at, and routinely guys throw me a 10 or a 20, then disappear to run at some other track. My neighbor, who owns the LHS usually makes a few bucks also, with a new glow plug, fuel tubing or a better head for the 2.5.
The regulars there are calling me 'The Professor' or 'Mr. Wizard'. lol

You want helis? Click this link.
I think it's a German or Swiss site. BIG stuff, including some that are turbine powered.
When the site opens, on the left, click the word Rumpfe, then click the heli names for some amazing, and intensely detailed helis.
There's more than just the first list. Click the arrow at the bottom for more, if you don't believe they're R/C.

Sweet they have the airwolf that show was awesome lol

I have had riden in a coptor when I was about 18 at Crazy Horse in South Dakota it was one of the coolest exsperiance I've ever incountered he took is just above the trees at 160 mph at least thats what the pilot told us. I thought about taking classes and learnig to fly real ones they had classes and job opportunity recently in my area I might check in to it.
