I am looking for a good hand held thermometer for my nirto rc cars and need to keep it under $40. What do y'all recommend?

The infrared thermometers are coming down in price, but not many places have one for 40 or less that I know of. Harbor freight is a tool company. check out their website you can order stuff or there could be a store near you

The harbor freight one has a peak temp of 230F, which isn't really high enough for RC use.

I've used the duratrax one and it's too small for me.

I use HPI's temp gun. reasonable price at around £25 which is not much more then 40dollars. its small, easy to use and really accurate. I've had mine for a few years and never had to change the battery.

I am looking into the flash point because that's what my local shop has. How hard is it to use without having a lazier?

I've never heard of that brand, but they all work basically the same way. There is usually a sensor at the very front of the thermometer that you aim at the point where the glow plug screws into the head.

Not hard, you just have to angle down inside the cooling head and move it around a bit to find the hot spot.

I just got an O'donnells racing accessories TGX1 and it works great, tower hobbies had it for 19.99. it even has a stop watch and a tip that fits in the head so you are dead on with your reading.
