hi there I'm new to this forum. i have the original version of the t maxx 3.3 and broke my liner 3 months after having it. after about two years i decided to revive it so i ripped out the opti-drive system and replaced it with a proper failsafe and bought the picco p2 .26 engine, bi-directional clutch system, big air filter and a tsais rear twin exit exhaust system, the trouble is no matter how rich i run it the engine is steaming after a tank of fuel.

another thing is the engine has a very high compression so starting the truck is a right pain beacause the piston keeps getting stuck at the top of the liner. i have now stripped the starting gear in the ez start. does anyone know if the pull start would be any easier than the ez start to turn over the engine??

Trash the dual pipe. Its not making enough back pressure to get fuel to the engine and its making it run lean.

as for the piston getting stuck at TDC i think you should just ditch the cheese start and get a pull start.

i just rebuilt my freinds tmaxx and he put a new 2.5 on it. i have the easy start on my revo and he wanted the pull start so i agree tmaxx96 they really beat the crap out of your knuckles lol but the pull starts are cheaper and less to go wrong in my opinion.i noticed once the 7th tank went through the pull start was getting better. i prefer the easy start just because it easier than trying to get my big hands in there to pull it.

you can loosen the glow plug up a but to help start it with the pull starter. as stated the dual pipe is the heat issue culpret. the back pressure on the pipe is just like your fuel pump on a 1:1 if there isnt enough pressure the engine starves for fuel. since the lubrication for these engines is in the fuel, you run lean and burn it up.

The dual pipe is your problem I have seen guys plug one side of the pipe to increase back pressure
however if it were me I would get the resonator pipe and be done with it

are you sure the twin pipe has increased performance alot. and kept my truck clean lol. maybe i should get a temp gun before i judge the heat, i read another thread and they said that they thought it was hot but when the tested it it was just 240

the twin pipe may have increased the performance a lot but that would be due to the leaner you run your engine the faster it will go...
with the dual pipe there is not enough back pressure hence running the engine leaner and making it go harder... still not good for your engine

ah i see where your coming from now lol, might keep it on there for a bit though after all it did cost me $80. and it make quite a nice sound. shall i stick with stock or is there a good tuned pipe out there i could get??

so do you reackon i should go with the pull start option?? I've heard a few people say that their gears are being stripped and cracked, and with my compression problem in my engine i can see me getting through quite a few gears lol

also I'm thinking of getting some piggy back shocks, does anybody know if these actually work, i know they look quite cool but i want to spend my money on something that will do my truck good!!

I use the Ez start and have not had any issues with it(except the one time when I put the truck upside down in a river..opsss). I like to have fun with my truck and using a pull start(I have one and have tried it)..well..it made me feel like I was starting the lawn mower and that is work not fun...lol. One good session with a pull start and a cranky engine and you will go back.

Ditch the pipe. $80 pipe vs $200 motor? A pull start will add nothing but a headache. Pre heat the engine with a hair dryer and crack the glow plug loose until it starts. Your probably lucky you haven't smoked the engine already.

if u leave the twin pipe on ur gonna kill ur engine due to running 2 lean
get rid of it asap

sell it on ebay if u wanna get some money back off it ay

ok lol I've heard enough for that matter now I'm going to take it off before i do anything else to it, but I'm still getting mixed reviews on the pull start... are they better or not??

probably because non of us want to see you smoke ur engine

well i have pull starts on both my cars and I've broken both of em so to me they have been a bit of a pain but I'm going to stick with them i think
suppose at the end of the day its a personal opinion and if u decided that you dont like it then u can always throw it in ur tool box and repair ur ezy start or even go with the bump start method

well ye i spose its trial and error at the end of the day, so does anyone know of a tuned pipe i can use instead of the twin pipe or is it best to stick the stock exhaust back on??
