Ok well for the past three months I have searched and read up on every savage forum I could find after deciding I wanted one.

So ready to buy I head out to the lhs that is not really local but ohwell. I notice he only has a hellfire in stock and ask if he has the savage X SS 4.6 kit. He tells me that he doesn't carry any hpi stuff anymore and that the hellfire he has is the last one and wont order anymore.

Naturally I ask why not and he starts to tell me how much the savage breaks the arms are junk I just reply well I was planning on putting rpm's on it and the one way berring goes on them all the time and mentioned something about if one drop of oil gets into it it becomes junk so stock up on them if you plan on getting one if this is true then 20 bucks at a whack it could become costly.

Well I really want the xss 4.6 kit So I turn to the people on this forum and another forum for feedback on this issue after all the reading and comparing I have already done.

Thank you very much in advace for any responses.

It sounds like this guy has absolutely no clue about what he is talking about! I have had my Savage SS for about 4-5 years now, I have NEVER broken an a arm, a tower, or anything for that matter, and I am not easy on my truck by any means. The only problem I had with mine was when it first came out the diffs only had two spider gears, so I ripped my diffs apart. After upgrading them to a four spider set up I have never had another problem with them. And one pull start has gone bad in that time period as well. The roto start can damage one way bearings because you can't feel if the engine is flooded as you can with a pull start, and they just continue to pound on the bearing, same thing can happen with any easy start type set up. Mine has always had a pull start and I have never had a one way bearing go bad. I love my Savage and would buy another one in a heartbeat. So I have no idea why your lhs is bashing it, but it sounds like he has other issues with HPI or just has no clue of what he is doing. The Savage is a very tough truck!

The funny thing is that I bet as he's sitting there bitching to this kid about how Savages are junk, he probably had a shelf full of T-Maxxes which in his book are probably "bulletproof" and "indestructable".

I have had a Sav SS 4.6 for 2 years and haven't broken an arm. It's a beefy, hardcore truck. It takes a beating and comes back for more. You can't go wrong with it.

I have one of the original savage 21's. I had the original arms on it for 2 years (about 16 gallons of fuel) and finally replaced them due to slop in the hinge pin holes.

I've broken a few axle uprights where the turnbuckle connects, but I have lunsford Ti turnbuckles.

I've heard the savage X has arms that are weaker due to less material to make it lighter.

I have the savage 25 and also have never broken a arm. Actually the only thing I've ever broke was a upright and that was because it clipped a apple tree going wide open. Savages are tough as nails. I suggest you find a new hobby shop.

ok guys thanks for all the responses, I appreciate it.

Another question. Is there any difference between the 4.6 kit and the 4.1 X other than the engine and the size of the motor and the fact that you have to put them together?

I don't believe the 4.6 kit is the savage X chassis. Tower has the 4.6 kit discontinued.

Savage 4.6 SS Kit

Or are you talking about the 4.6 X SS Kit vs the 4.1 X RTR? I believe the only real differences between these two is that the RTR comes with a radio, the engine size and the RTR is put together.

I want to say the kit may have different shock springs and exhaust, but I could be wrong...

The 4.6 X SS has all the new upgrades like aluminum diff and such in the kit form, it has the star .28.
RTR 4.1 dont have the goodys like the XSS and and comes with a .25.
I have had a savage sence the SS.25 first came out. the .25 engine i ran the crap out of, then the engine was donated to my friends BB T maxx he ran the crap out of it. Its retired now but would still start befor I put it up.
Aarm's?!? lmao RPM stated 1 time(after we emailed them asking) that they had not made arm for the savage becuase the stock ones where so tuff. a year later they finnaly started making them. It took a 20 mph mailbox clip to finnaly break 1 stock arm, becuase my steering had come undone.
The new 4.6 XSS looks super tuff, with little to no mods needed.IMO

Yeah man don't but into there BS. My LHS tried telling me for years that my Savage21 was junk and I should get a T-Maxx. To this day I've yet to break an a-arm or anything dealing with the suspension. The only things I have broken are a few engine plates, some shock shafts, and a hell of a lot of bodies.

I have had a few different ones.Savage21, Savage 25 and theFirst edition Savage X with the 25. I liked them all. I would recommend any of them. May have to upgrade the 21 but you won't do it mainly because its weak. Every RC has weak points. The Maxx has been known to have many.

I think they are great rigs to get into the hobby but for a LHS to say that is just a ploy to sell you something that will allow them to sell you more parts to fix it.IMO of course.

Wish I had found this forum before I bought my first RC.

Savage is tough as hell. Got the .25.
One diff, before I did the mod. Comes with 4 spider gears now.
3 spur gears? Bent a shock, broke the pins on the battery box, clutch and about 3 one way bearings.
Think that is it. That is in 2 years.

The one ways are 14 bucks? First one I messed up was my own fault. Used a drill to try to start it. Not a problem if ya have a drill with a clutch setting on it. Direct drive Makita not a good idea... My bad.
Never broke an arm.
Savage is one tough ass truck. Can't go wrong.

Just curious. What was the guy trying to sell ya?

You should hear some of stuff I have at my LHS. I think the worst one was that he wished all the truck/buggy guys would go away so he could sell trains only! I don't think he knew I was at fuel rack outside his office. Makes me not feel so bad about buying parts on-line though.
BTW, I love my Savage 25, very tough/few broken parts.

He was trying to push the muggy, or the lst2.
The lst2 was the second choice but I decided to go with the savage..

Savage or LST2, I'm sure you would've been happy with whatever you got.

I don't see why he felt the need to put down the savage. It might not be my truck of choice, but it sure is a solid truck. I hate ignorant LHS's.

Hey can I have the number to the lhs Pease!! Imp not joking I need this number pm me please.

The reason why the guy it pulling the truck of the shell if because the truck does not brake enough. The lhs make there money of the part the truck are sold some times at 10 percent profit so the not much of a profit for an lhs. Part is sold at 50% percent make up!

my lhs has rased the price on the nitro fuel to $29 buck when i started the hobby the gas was $19.99.

It time to put a stop the lhs bs and fight back and buy online and make the stupid lhs suffer hahahhahahhahh
