I did the header mod where you cut the flange off and now I have problems keeping my muffler secured to it. What else could I do to secure it? Think I could glue it? If so what type of glue could I use that will withstand that much heat? Thanks.

i think most if not all glue would come unglued i would just try a zip tie very very tight hope you get it fixed.

how much of the header did u cut?!

good lord, hopefully not where it starts/stops to bend.

never had a single problem with mine.
not sure what your deal is

You can try re-flanging it by sticking something in it and gently rolling it along the edge.

Why did you do it? Why not try a different (better) header than stock? There are a couple that work with a little tweaking.

Olds97_lss-Well I'm wondering why I did it myself..... wish I hadnt now since headers go for as much as 20 bones. What other headers do you recommend? I'll be buying another now since I keep having problems. That and then the fact that it really didnt improve performance that I could notice.

Z400-My deal is that I followed the instructions explained here looking for a little more out of the 3.3 but with no avail. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Thanks

HPI RS4 2 header

Dynamite Rear Exhaust Header

Both of those are cheaper than stock, the HPI is quite a bit cheaper. Both also use a spring to hold it onto the engine, so it won't be as likely to break as stock.

I think you have to bend them a bit towards the back of the truck to get the pipe to line up really well, but that's not a biggy.

That HPI header looks like it will work great and its black which is another plus. I have no problems tweaking either. Have you personally used this header on a revo 3.3 Olds97_lss? I plan on buying if yes! Thanks for your time man I really appreciate it!

Nope, but I've seen it installed at other forums on the 2.5. Considering the header for both the 2.5R revo and 3.3 revo are the same, I don't see why it won't work.

Found pics! None of them are mine. They were in threads on another forum. I should save them to my PC in case they remove them...

Here's an image of the dynamite header installed:

I think he bent it back a bit.

And the HPI header:

The guy that used the HPI header said he had to grind a bit of the flange off so it didn't interfere with the starter housing. If you look closely on the last pic, you can see that near the engine there's a flat spot on the bottom of the header flange.

Also, it doesn't look as though he bent his at all, which requires a longer exhaust mount wire. If you tweak the header a bit towards the back, I'm sure you could use the stock wire. The pipe would be at a bit of an angle, but I don't think that would hurt much.

man i wish i could run the hpi header.

dang springs between my pipe and header keep me from doin it

Wont hurt once the pain goes

you should try to reflange that header. if you have a sand pit and a gas torch you can fill the pipe with the sand then plug then heat the header and do some panel beating and bend it the way you need it the be. The flange you cut off can be achieved by getting a steel rod slightly larger than the header diameter and then tapping it out - the pipe will need to be heated to do this otherewise you will likely crack it. What ever you do - next time read all the details and get in contact with the person firsthand so you know what you are in for.

That write up for the 2.5 hopup is a bit tricky and you really need more info than whats being told to you in the blurb.

If it doesn't work go buy the resnoator 5490-B-SC-R from traxxas and get another header pipe - at least then you can have another 15% on your enigine output without the headache you have at the moment.

Buy a new pipe!

What pipe do you have? Any pics?

I ran a pipe on my savage with a connector like these use, but it was originally a 3 spring connector. With a little grinding on the flange and a good coupler, you might be able to use it anyway.

yes i do

I'm running the THS pipe pictured.
that was just a comparison, revo pipe compared to a non revo pipe

You could use a coupler on that pipe. Granted, it's not a lot of material for the coupler to bite down on, but it would work. I ran my savage that way with an XTM pipe for the better part of a year.
