Hello all, my friend just gave me his old r/c car and doesn't know anything about it. I haven't been able to find anything about it online either I need some parts as it does not run.. The carburetor is lose so prob needs a new screw also the air adjustment screw is missing.. The engine is a colt I think that's a generic brand but please help.. Any info would be appreciated! image.webp

That fuel tank looks like an hpi fuel tank. Of course its possible someone could've fitted an hpi tank onto another brand rc. It's also missing tie rods as well. If I were to guess what it is I would have to say its an older hpi rs4. The two speed location, the fuel tank, the belt layout and the shocks give me the theory that its an older hpi. The bad news is parts are going to be very hard to come by.

Thanks! Yeah I think the tie Rods are the least of my worry I took it to the LHS and they werent much help said the compression was good but with out those two screws I'm screwed lol. To my suprise they had no clue what it was. Worst case scenario can I get a diff engine to fit?

That engine looks to be like one of the old .15 (I think) engines that came in an RCGT10. You can snag parts and even a new engine off ebay, might wanna do some comparison on the two before you decide to start buying parts.

The engine says (colt 12) on it would that match the one your talking about?

you could buy a whole new carburettor already assembled and slap the airfilter on that.
>>>>make sure the carb comes with an O-ring to seal the neck. (it should)

buy a pinch bolt.
(i think the part that locks the carb to the neck of the engine is called a pinch bolt).

the tie rod ends you could probably buy them in the lhs and make em to fit.

buy a couple of glow plugs as your glow plug is probably well worn down.
some fuel maybe 18-20% nitro

other than that it should be good.

get a nitro starter kit like 20 quid for one comes with a glow ignitor with charger, fuel bottle, screwdrivers, and a 4 piece wrench for unscrewing things namely the glowplugs.

after that everything else is tetarity the sorta stuff you buy as you find the need for them to make things easy
you dont have to rush out and buy them and if ya have them handy get yourself a box and toss them in.
i recommend;
after run oil >> 3 drops dropped into the engine after driving it around to lubricate the engine
air filter oil (not sure what you do with that air filter as i never seen one before, if it has a sponge inside just wash it with nitro fuel and oil it afterwards)
rechargeable batteries
needle nosed pliers >> for those hard to reach places
duct tape or electrical tape >> for tying wires together
wd-40 >> great for loosening up stiff parts and cleaning
threadlocker >> probably the most important as nitro engines vibrate and can loosen screws and you Do NOT want that namely the engine mount screws need to be locked into the chassis

note
glowplugs come in all different temperatures... rule of thumb >> the smaller the engine the higher the nitro content the higher the nitro content the cooler the glowplug - the cooler the glowplug the harder it is to tune. so theres a balance. one thing affects another... for a beginner just get medium warm glowplugs and go from there.

pretty sure thats all top level advice but if anything seems wrong feel free to correct me.

I thought about getting a new carburetor but don't know how to begin finding one that would be compatible with my engine..?

without getting too indetail generally if the neck fits its the right carb... there are good ones and bad ones in regard to racing. but just getting your car going a neck that fits. some necks are bigger and wont go at all but i'd say a hpi .15-.18 neck would fit.

BTW your car is called a nitro 10 colt

here is a parts list to help you identify the parts

think thats a .15 engine (2.5cc)

Awesome your a big help so I should just order a carb anywhere from .15-.18 or do I measure it?

well if they have changed theres likely to be modifications to the quality over time... the suspension is the same setup however yours look higher quality but it could be the case that your friend bought them and a alloy upper deck
the chassis, engine, and pully locations seem bang on though yours has the pully running outside the chassis up to the front diff while this one is internal however... could be a user modification again or a company model design upgrade. at least 3 different forums mentioned colt and duratrax in the same senctence seems plausible. maybe they didnt like that their customers kept getting pictures of handguns instead of R/C cars when they searched for them online lol.

just bring it in to a lhs and ask them for a carb for your engine. i dont have my digital callipers with me atm you dont really get carb spec sheets anyway online.

ask for a hpi rs4 carb if its a rotary carb.

Lol that's true haha.. But yeah ima head out to a diff shop I went to one about a hour away an was disappointed they turned me to the Internet and didn't help at all so hopefully the next one down will be more help.. I appreciate the help greatly hopefully I get this running soon!!

if the hobby shop wasn't helpful and advising you on getting sorted then noone would blame you for changing, its up to them to make you feel welcome.

let us know how she runs

I didn't make any progress on this.. The LHS says it's a long shot and a diff carb wouldn't work, also if I get a new engine I may run into other problems with the car as well .. They tried convincing me to just buy a new kit.. Think they were just trying to make money

Of course they want to make money by trying to make you get a new one. But I guaranty that if you were to start talking High end motors, servos, etc. they would change their minds real fast!!

Sent from my Pipboy-3000 in the Capital Wasteland.

Wow that's it! You found it! Ill order it right now aha hopefully the new carb will solve it =] thanks alot ill keep you posted
