This is an RCBoyz RCB 8456 Electric Motor Conversion Kit for the HPI Savage. Imported from Germany, this kit lets you use the new Brushless Motors to power your Monster Truck. Installation is easy with very few modifiations required (You have to drill one hole). The kit does not include the brushless motor or Speed Controller, but we recommend the Plettenberg 1800 watt system. This is perfect for the monster truck lover who doesn't want the hassle of Nitro Engine Maintenance. It does include the pinion gear.
I personally think is sounds like a rip off. While an electric Savage is most interesting, I think this kit is pretty much not worth the price they are asking. An aluminum battery holder, a motor mount, a pinion gear and maybe some screws for $170? Seems a little too steep for what you're getting.

LOL thought I've seen it all!! but hey whatever floats your boat, and yes that is very steep considering what you are getting.
The mod looks simple enough that u could probably to it yourself without the kit.... not bashing the idea cause it could be good for someone thats really into electric.. just my .02 cents

OH my I am not sure this would be completely worthwhile even if I did have interest in electric rc. I dunno guess it's just not my thing.

the only thing important in the kit they are selling is the pinion gear. Cause i can't seem to find any pinion gear that would mesh correctly with the savage spur,, has anyone seen a pinion that will do this?. Just wanted to try on how fast the savage will go on a 540 motor. yup they are really a rip off. Got my dremel only for 98$... :)

What turn 540 motor you looking at? It would have to be a beast to even move this 11 or so pound Savage - barring super low gearing, of course. For instance, a hot 10-12 turn motor will consume about 400 Watts and put out about 300 Watts. A stock Savage engine puts out, argueably, 2.5HP. At 746 Watts per Horsepower, you can see why they are recommending an 1800 Watt brushless system. I am not trying to disuade you from tinkering with electric as I am still very fond of electric myself - for planes anyway. It just seems that $180 for the kit may be the tip of the iceburg in terms of cost if you want to duplicate the power of the latest Savage platform.

Good point. And from taking another look at the pic, how long of a runtime will a 6 cell pack get ya? About 2 minutes? And remember, adding cells will increase the overall weight.

And what's the RPM at WOT of a brushless step? I bet it's not 30K at 2.5hp.

I guess the closest thing I could compare it to is an E-Maxx, and I wasn't all that impressed with the E-Maxx a friend of mine has, and it's got a ton of hop ups on it (and he's considering a nitro conversion for it too).

IMO, I think electric has it's place, but it's not offroad high speed bashing with a 12+lb truck. Rock crawling, rainy day in the living room. There are a few other places I'd want the less noise and cleanliness of electric, but it's not enough for me to want to buy one. Let alone convert my precious maxx to electric??!! Pshawww
