hi guys

just a quick question,my brother owns a 1/10 scale nitro with a gx12 engine.we used to use it all the time and it was really fast but then i got a new 1/8 scale nitro so his car was put in the garage for 1-2 years.i then got it out a while ago and started it up it was a pain to get it running but i got there eventually. but, when i use it,it is alot slower than i remember it being.if i lean it it just doesn't make any smoke so it runs to lean but its still slow so its not as if its running rich.my question is.why is it so slow,is it because I'm used to my 1/8 but even though that may be the case, its alot slower than it used to by.
i hope someone will know why

bearings are probly alittle on the dry side. you could try lubing the bearings to see if that helps.. that would create alot of friction. i dont know f that will be the only problem but it wouldnt hurt!

Two things. One,what oil should i use and two,i dont know if this has anything to do with it but whenever it starts moving,i hear a high pitched noise which sounds a bit like a metal on metal rubbing but its not from the clutch bell

yup that would be the axles spinning dry!! spray litium grease will work, white litium grease, I have even used diff oil before in a pinch..

ok ill do that tomorow and try it (its 10:15pm here)if you can think of any other reasons why it would be slow then that would be helpful

i ran the car today.the speed has improved a little but not as much as expected.the noise has gone aswell but i was wondering could it be that the clutch bell isnt going as fast as it should be because maybe it is not engaging until it has hit a heigher rpm than normal

try tightening the slipper clutch and a new clutch for the clutch bell couldnt hurt if it looks worn out.. atleast you are getting there. I have had to redue acouple rigs due to sitting for a while.

where abouts are the screws that i need to tighten and how much would a clutch be also, when i removed the clutch bell, there wwas a big washer,is that meant to be there

how will i know if the clutch shoes are worn

I've just looked at them and they have a black line round the whole edge and there looking a bit uneven

i got the car tuned perfectly because it never stalled, ran at a good speed and plenty of smoke was coming out of the exhaust but the weird thing is, is that after a while, the carburetor gets so hot that any fuel that goes in the carb just sizzles violently, this would suggest that it was running really lean but there was plenty of smoke coming out, I did the spit test on the cooling head and it just sizzles aswell so whats wrong with it.I've attached a picture of my cooling head with the glow plug

I'm now back to square 1,the car runs but it is really slow, the engine just sounds as if it is running at a really slow rpm and it never gets to a heigher rpm,if i lean it out,it just stalls, what is wrong

after reading a post of a person that is having a similar problem, one guy suggested that he should get a new piston and sleeve because when he did that it worked fine afterwards, one thing i should mention if i havent already, before the car was put away for a long time,i think my brother always used to run it too lean so could this ruin the piston and sleeve and then gives it a lower compression which is now why it is running so poorly.if this is the case,do i have to buy a new piston and sleeve or would an engine rebuild sort it out.

sounds like what happen to my maxx right before it poop the bed. have you inspected the inside of your engine??? and a temp gauge is way better then the spit test trust me!!!!!

what should i look for when i look inside the engine

if i rebuild it,do i have to replace the piston and sleeve

look for wearing on any peices and makng sure ther is nothing broken.. and about the piston and sleeve that all depends on ther condition when you look at themm. look at the conrod and make sure there is no harline cracks.

just coming off topic quick, the other day,i was driving my xt2 and something that holds the cutch bell on came off and now my clutch bell is pretty much hanging on.what i want to know is what is used to hold it on is it one of those clips that you force over the metal or is it a screw
