Hey. I'm looking to convert my GST to brushless, but I'm not sure which motor to buy. I want insane power, but I still want to keep the ESC budget at around 100-200$. I was thinking Mamba Monster/Flux with a powerful Neu, like 1520, 1717, 1521/1Y, 1524/1.5D, 1527/1.5D but I'm not sure which.

I want the most powerful motor on a 6s setup, basically.

I don't want to push the absolute upper limits with 300$ lipos, 700$ ESC's. I want an insanely powerful motor I can run with a Mamba Monster type ESC and with good 3s+3s or 6s packs. I'd like to be able to hit around 40-50mph or so perhaps, but not absolutely necessary. I want something with ridiculous amounts of torque!

I'd also appreciate some help on where to look for motor mount/etc. RC-monster seems to be good, do you know of any better shop?

Did you find some where to get better diffs and driveline parts for it? My buddy can't keep his 7.7 together. He'd love some stronger diffs.

I thought the diffs were pretty much unbreakable already?

Brushless is a totally different animal than nitro. We're talking instant acceleration and max torque right off the line. It will wreck what some people think is bullet proof.

Yeah, my question is related to the brushless version. Not the nitro one.

Anything in a vehicle can be broken obviously, but I've heard and read a couple of threads where people have taken the GST 7.7 diffs and used em on Savage Brushless Conversions.

"Aluminum Diff case with 6 gear differential
* Beefiest / most durable
The GENESIS now comes with a super strong Aluminum differential case that houses the ultra strong 6-gear differential. This is by far the strongest differential system ever developed in the industry.
Drivetrain option
1. Active Center Diff. 2. Diff. Lock"

I guess it's in the class of the bulletproof diffs from HPI for the Flux? Maybe a step below?

Yours may be newer than my buddy's. Maybe Cen beefed up their diffs? Do you have a center diff? That would really help with durability. Really, there's only one way to find out if it will hold up. If the Cen doesn't end up doing what you want, you'll have all your electronics for the next beast.

The CEN Genesis does have good strong diffs. The Ofna Spider Diffs also have six gears. That is what I have in my converted T-Maxx. Supposedly the new HPI bulletproof diffs are stronger than the CEN but...hey who really knows. I don't think I have ever seen a big CEN made brushless...this will be interesting

There are a couple around. This is my first ever conversion though, but it looks somewhat straightforward. At the moment I'm just curious as to what I'm going to do with the built in reverse and gear system. I guess either a 2 speed adapter, but that looks sort of gimmicky, or I'll install a direct drive OR strip the transmission down and just place the motor directly on the center diff. I don't know though. Guess I'll find out eventually.

You could always use a clutch on the motor. Rc Driver did a conversion on the big Tamiya nitro. They used a centrifugal clutch that looked real similar to a regular nitro clutch, though I don't recall the manufacturer. You'd have to use your mechanical brake.

clutch system a must

Metalhead Matt is absolutely right. Now that you are considering electric it is even more vital to intregate your clutch system with your brushless especially if you will looking for torque. I have a complete custom aluminum aftershock running a Mamba Monster esc and Neu-Castle 2200kv motor with a 6 cell lipo and custom roll cage covering complete upper body. My truck weighs in at just over 17lbs, its a tank. My brushless has no problem pushing this bad boy like nothing, i kept two speed tranny, with reverse, and mechanical brakes, did not gear down, i top out about 40, but it does willies at any point from dead stop to top speed. I changed to all aluminum front and rear diff housing, titanium drive shafts and turn buckles(yes a small fortune), hardened steel gears, etc all due to my brushless setup was shredding and twisting everything it could find because i wasn't utilizing a clutch system. Instant power will find ever weak point and destroy it, and right after you finish upgrading your last weak point it will start over again. The centrifugal clutch saves all these parts and most important the motor, no faster way to damage a brushless motor than to put under instant strain.

The clutch on that tamiya was an outdrive, with a little dog bone running to another drive cup on the tranny. The pinion and spur was actually inside of the tranny. Funky stuff.
