Hey there! I purchased my first nitro (T-Maxx) on Easter Sunday and after watching the 1/8 scale buggies out at the track I just had to get one.

This past weekend I decided to purchase the GS Strom RTR because I heard good things and also I liked the idea of adding the FM radio to my arsenal. Additionally, my LHS carries parts and the head RC guy runs the Storm and is extremely resourceful.

Now here's my problem - I am finding it difficult to locate resources for information, hop-ups, configs, customizations, etc....

Since I am used to the plethora of information on the Traxxas website I was a little turned off by the lack information (or a completed website) at www.GeneralSilicones.com . They don't have a message board on their either - which is a major bummer.

Anyhow, I just stumbled across this message board and it looks as though I'm in luck. Looks as though there are some fellow RC'ers here who can help.

So here are my questions (sorry for the long winded thread):hehe: :

1. Should I change my stock pipe? I know it's EXTREMELY loud but I also want to increase performance. Any recommendations here? CVEC, Dynamite, low-end, top-end...? Will I actually SEE results?

2. The air filter - the RTR has the air filter cover that is made for mud/water which to me seems would limit airflow possibly resulting in lower performance. Is this true? Where can I buy a buy a better air filter that will fit and help improve airflow?

3. Black wing and clear bodies.... naturally I want to customize my Storm so I was looking for a place that sells bodies and place that offers a black wing (am I reaching here?).

4. My overall decision to go with the GS Storm RTR - What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance for your assistance - I am looking to beat the pants off my brother and his Ultra LX Pro so any information on performance increase measures (links and message boards) would be helpful. I don't plan on racing professionally or anything like that - just bashing and racing amongst friends.

FYI - I did a search on Storm RTR and there was not a great deal of threads to sift through which is why I decided to post.

Thanks again!

I have some things to say. Welcome to RCNT.Next, wow! you bought two nitro cars One after another. That takes balls. The GS storm is a Great Buggy. Lots of people have it. Most of them just try to upgrade it to Pro spec.'s. The GS storm will definietly bgeat the Ultra LX easily. (my stock nitro rustler can beat it) There might be someone on this board who can help you. I think two people have Storms. The Storm was a good decision, I was also contemplating on getting one. That would be after the savage.

Motor savers makes great filters. They can be used for racing. The filter provided by GS is for Muddy and Rainy conditions. The deflector does limit airflow a little bit, but it saves your motor in Muddy and Rainy, Basically wet conditions. Its nice to have one of those for wet conditions.

As for the pipe. Everyone who bought the RTR storm complained about the loud pipe. As for your options, the CVEC one isnt race legal-I think. When you find the right pipe for you, you will see the diffrence in sound and performance. Trust me. After getting the Filter and Pipe, engine performance will be increased greatly.

Now I have a question for you: did you get a JR racing radio with your Storm? The computer one? IF so, how much did the kit cost? I really like that computer radio. The steering servo is also very nice.

Finally, here are some sites:

SilentHunterKellen, I did get the JR racing radio with my GS Storm RTR and I opted to purchase an additional receiver to place in my T-MAXX. Today out at the track it was nice to select different configs on the Radio and it was a relief to finally go FM.

I paid $479.99 for the kit at my local hobby shop, Hobby World. www.hobby-world.com

I may have been able to get it cheaper elsewhere but I'm the type of person who likes things right away and I also like to take things back in person if they break. So shipping/online ordering was not something I was interested in. I make it a point to order everything else online, like parts, bodies, etc... just not kits.

On to the servo - I had to upgrade my steering servo on my T-Maxx but I personally feel that the stock steering servo on the Storm is adequate. But again, I'm kind of new to this and may not know any different.

BTW - Thanks for the advice. I looked at the Pro-Line website and I did not see any bodies that were designed specifically for the GS Storm. Do other bodies work as well?

I use the Inferno Crowd Pleaser on my Storm. You just need to cut the back a little for the shock towers to fit. This is a MUCH stronger body than the Storm body. I broke like 3 before I found out the CP fit

I use these hop-ups or know of these hop-up manufacturers,

www.racinghardcore.com

www.fioroni.com

That stock pipe blows!
I got the cheap Dynamite 2 chamber buggy pipe and it improved performance and got rid of SO much noise.

As for wings in my picture is a Kyosho Inferno wing it comes in many colors, you just have to drill your own holes but its cake.

As for the Airfilter I use the Kyosho 3 stage filter on my "pro" model and the Mugen air filter on my RTR. Any 1/8 buggy filter will work and yes the stock one restricts performance.

Also look in the back of you manual it has all the hop-ups from GS in the back even thought they are drawing it will give you an idea whats out there. The US GS site sucks got to this site http://www.gsracing.com.tw/ they have all the part numbers here so you can call Horizon and tell them the number otherwise its like pulling teeth to find out what out there. Hope I could help

humboldtblazer,

Thanks for ths info man, I really appreciate it. Surprisingly, when I went into my LHS today they had the black rear wing for the GS Storm in stock! I couldn't believe it - they ususally are out of stock of everything I'm looking for.

I went with the Mugen air filter and the cheap dynamite single chamber pipe. Which leads me to my next question - any opinions on my Dynamite pipe? It's definitely not the dual chamber and in fact it almost looks like identical to the stock pipe.

Do you have a pipe that you would install besides the dynamite dual chamber? Or is that one good enough? I'm willing to spend the cash to get to get this sucker movin'.

What about the shocks? Should I upgrade? If so, which ones?

Thanks!

Did you go to nitroreview.com ??? That site has USER reviews of pipes and stuff like that. Also, theres a cool maker of painted bodies called...umm....darkstar or something. They make really nice airbrushed bodies. Hold on lemme get the site. The shocks look fine in stock form.

Got it!
Its:

It's definitely not the dual chamber and in fact it almost looks like identical to the stock pipe. I just put in a new Sirio .21 in my Storm Pro and I want a new pipe in a bad way. I thinking a Rossi single piece pipe is what I want. You should be fine with that pipe for awhile but I would look into getting a cheaper dual chamber until you decide to upgrade your "sports" engine. That stock engine has a lot of HP so it will take you awhile to get used to.

Thanks!

I run the single chamber Dynamite on my RTR Storm and its a lot better the the stock pipe. That was probably my biggest complaint was that LOUD cheap pipe. Try to get the end of the header to almost touch the end of the tuned pipe leave like a 2 zip tie thickness between them in the coupler. This will give you SO much low end. Trust me with that engine this is what you want. After a lot of jumping check the distance between the header end and the tuned pipe end as the will "pull apart".

I upgraded to the Sirio .21 in my Storm pro and I am feeling the need for a $180 one piece probably the Rossi. You should be fine for awhile with the pipe you got maybe a little later on get a cheaper dual chamber pipe.

I use the "pro" shocks and like them better than the stock shocks. I know the Kyosho shocks will fit but they are about $75 for each set so $150 where the GS pro shocks are $100 for 4. Any quality 1/8 buggy shocks should fit. You will find over time that most or at least a good chunk of 1/8 buggy parts are compatable.

Ok fellas! The Verdict is in......

I took your advice and here's what I went and did.

1. Installed the Dynamite single chamber pipe.

2. Installed the Mugen Air Filter

3. Spent a day tuning.

This car by far one of the fastest buggies I've seen out at our local track. There is a pretty nice triple that I've only witnessed a few cars clear and I was clearing it pretty often. I did buy some new tires since the stock treads pretty much fell off the first day which helped me a great deal.

I also lost a few screws and replaced them with some new ones along with some lock tight. Other than that everything else was perfect. The car was running great and I was very impressed/pleased with my purchase.

One thing I may look into is upgrading the shocks and shock towers for more adjustments. But that's down the road a while.

I do have some other questions though - Other than using after run oil or wd-40 in the engine what else should I do? Do the differentials or any other moving parts need any attention after running? I make sure I clean the buggie very well I just wonder if I should be lubricating anything else on the car.

Thanks again guys for all of your help. I think I may have to put the T-Maxx on eBay. ;-)

Just curious, what tires did you buy? I've been wondering about those new Knuckles.(greg degani's world winning tires)
[move]-Kellen[/move]

Silent you dont even have a car to put the tires on. Didnt I tell you to go play with your dolphin? :jk: Anywho Goodshow baycrew. Glad I could help. I too was very impressed with the Storm. I now have 2. Those stock tires are so soft when you break the engine in on the pavement their pretty much gone. When you buy tires buy Proline they are the best! I bought 3 sets of Ofna rims before I got tired of cracking/breaking them on big jumps. Now I run the Velocity dish rims by Proline. The pro shock towers a good I still run a front one. I snapped the back 7075 one so I said screw it and went Hardcore Ti. That Ti rear shock tower is so SOLID. I love the HCR stuff!. You might want to get rid of the plastic servo arms as they flex and your steering throttle response will improve and be more precise with some say Dynamite aluminum servo arms. As for the steering that servo should be more than fine for now. If you get the Pro Steering arm it has bearings instead of your stock bushings and this will help alot. I love how tuff it is!! Buggies rock!

Umm, my friend is in the market for some hi-perfromance tires and I'm just tryna HELP him out. If you gotta be so nosy. I actually like to help out my fellow RC drivers, unlike BlazerHumbolt-if you know him:hehe:

I got more friends than you. And R/C ers dont count Humbolt. I bet your one of those guys who hang out in a bandroom and never play sports you just talk to these weirdos and eat pizza all day. But hey, lets not get this thread into the Flaming fourm.

"One time, at band camp...." Sorry, I couldn't resist.

SHK,

I went with the Total Racing Connection Grip Buggy Tires. They have an awesome tread and after over 2 hours on them they showed very little to no wear. I highly recommend them. Unfortunately, I could not locate a website to show you a pic of the tread - hopefully you have better luck.

I paid $29 a pair at my LHS. They came premounted with flourecent green disc rims.

Thanks for the info fellas.

Can someone give me a link for the Dynamite dual or single chamber pipe please as I'm interested in buying it.
Also can you give me a link for a Mugen air filter and could you give me any more tips on hops ups please?
