Hey, was out practicing on our local track and stripped out the large bevel gear in my center dif on my storm! and the season opener is tomorrow!!, this sucks, what are some good upgrades for this bad boy as in differentals, or what is something i can do to help the situation in the front and back before this happens, when i put dif oil in, is there a gasket for it?? will the dif oil leak out????

but how can it be a bad gear mesh, it can only go in one way!!

well what the FU*$! i got 2 new bevel gears and 4 litle spider gears for the center dif and put 10,000 in the center dif, now i stripped out the front bevel gears!!! is this a mesh problem or will the dif oil fix this problem???

I don't know why your gears are being an issue, but I've never heard of anyone complain about the Storm's diffs. I've used mine quite a bit so far and they show nearly no sign of wear. But, they WILL wear down eventually, and as soon as they wear down enough it won't take much to strip them out.

Diffs need to be rebuilt from time to time. Fortunately, they are cheap to do.

I'd probably look into rebuilding all three diffs if they are worn down.

kk will do, now that i remember, there was shims on all 4 little gears to make the mesh better, but also, i got this buggy used of ebay, and the guy said it was a year old, so he prolly never rebuilt them. i put 10,000 in the middle so what should i do for the front and the backs. i like to have alittle push from the back to, but i dunno, What is a agood combination to have with 10,000 in the middle, and then what is a good combination to have with 7,000 in the middle?

If you don't put the little brass colored shims on the center four gears, they will slide around too much and mess everything up really good. You need to make sure you use these shims.

I currently run 3000 front, 7000 center, and 1000 rear. I am thinking about running 5000 front, 10000 center, and 1000 rear to see if it helps me. But the 3,7,1 seems to be a good combo.

Yes, I agree 3,7,1 is a good starting point. Just make sure that you shim the diffs right and the gear mesh is nice and tight on the main center diff gear and you should be just fine. It sounds like it walked away from you because it wasn't locktitied... the motor probibly worked it's way back and when that happens, you strip those gears real quick when the gear mesh is too loose like that... same if they are too tight, they go bad real quick.

?? what are you talking abou the motor for? the motor is in the same place i think it just stripped out/worn out because there was barely any grease in it and they are a year old

Good call... I misread your post. I thought you were talking about the main gear on the center diff to motor for some reason. Either way, most people overlook the gear mesh right there and don't locktite it and the gears will get stripped out. Yeah, you need to go through your diffs and make sure they are shimmed correctly, I always do this right off of the bat when I get a new buggy and every so often depending on how much I run it.

what are you talking about locktiting something, what am i suspose to locktite on the difs?

Nah I think he means locktite the engine screws so the engine will not move and cause an improper mesh of the clutchbell gear and the main diff gear. Grease sucks for than 5 uses as you have to regrease if you care about the diffs. It is a lot easier than filling them with diff lock oil but it requires way more maintenance and you run the risk of frying diffs.

Thank you... that's what I meant... sorry it came out wrong.

Don't know if this helps but I have had problems with the centre diff. Look for damage to the plastic case. I had something (stuck stone I think) rubbing on it, this basically melted the case pushing the gears apart and making a bad mesh causing them to chew up. If I'd of caught it early enough I could have got away with just replacing the plastic case, sadly left it too late and the gears needed doing too.
