Ok guys, I'll try to make it short and sweet. My TRX 2.5 engine seems to be getting too hot and shutting off... no throttle response when I hit the gas, just kind of sits there (yes servo batteries are new so are transmitter batteries). Engine sounds funny, kind of bogged down. After I let it cool off for a few minutes, it runs fine again. The engine also seems to be running rich, but I wouldn't think overheating that bad would be a tendency from an engine running too rich. Has anyone had this problem before? I could really use some pointers, thanks.

:flamer: on the n00b! lol

From the sounds of it, you're running lean. That's the most likely reason for overheating. And when the engine heats that much it leans even more. So when you hit the throttle, the engine just doesn't have enough fuel to run right. My advice is to reset the carb to factory settings and try to retune it. Also get an inexpensive infrared temp gun to monitor your temps. On a 2.5 it should stay below 300F...

Thanks for the reply... I'm going to attempt to richen the mixture as is, because I don't know the factory settings lol, and see where it goes from there. I'll start with the "low end" needle first. If anyone thinks this is not a good idea, please let me know, thanks.

Use the old pinch test for the LSN.
Once its warmed up pinch the fuel line and listen to the engine die out. When its adjusted properly you will hear the engine rev up just a bit for 1-2 seconds before it dies.

Directly from the 2.5 manual...

Factory settings for the High speed needle- 4 turns out from seated.
Factory for the low speed needle- flush with needle body.

And just as a rule of thumb, when you go back to factory settings, you start by tuning the high speed needle first. Then the low.

Ok I'll definitely try the factory settings.... I did the pinch test with the existing settings and it worked just like you said fasteddy... so I don't know... we'll see soon.
Thanks again

Tuning takes a lot practice. Unfortunately a blown engine or two as well. Sooner or later it will come naturally. you'll just pull it in and know exactly what needle to turn and how far without even thinking about it.

Keep on truckin...

hot 2.5

u are not alone, my first engine did the same thing. i always went back to factory settings brfore trying again.
I bought a new one and tuning was a breeze. night and day difference. I've heard you've got a 50 /50 chance of getting a poop one, wich sucks! good luck.

This one is a new one, I bought it to replace the :bowned: up TRX .15 that was already on there. I'll probably take it to get it tuned, the hobby shop near me will do it no problem. :bunny:
